Chey! Thought I smart to come here at 8am to go marketing. Didn't know there's Pioneer priority timing, so the supermarket will only allow this youngster me in at 9am.

Longer wait for me coz lil' one kancheong and left home at 6.35am 🤦🏻‍♀️. Hubby was saying if he had known, he should have volunteered to send her to school instead while I send che-che. But too bad! I've already made plans to go grocery-shopping.

And we're back to square 1. Sigh...

.. Can swim but of course must fine-tune strokes. She learnt swimming when she was K2? Then she suddenly had that fear of water. In between breaks n from group to private n more sighing from me. Why my 2 kids always need me to scream at them? Yah.I screamed at che-che in public pool b4.

# Lil'one (if u recall) lied to the coach she couldn't swim when she had to go for SwimSafer. #

Now, when she wants to play in water. It's with the condition, she swims first. And I made her swim to me, walking further and further away each time. My fav statement to both girls. "I'll throw and kick you into the pool. I give you a choice, you either swim to survive or do nothing n drown.

I heard the "king king kiang kiang" and saw my lil one helping me to dry the dishes. And threw the cutlery messily in the drawer. Awww....

Then, at a young age, she would sometimes tao huang siao and help do housework without me asking. Not sure why she would take the initiative. Maybe to seek approval from me? 

Now she hardly do unless is asked / tasked to do so.

Ah girl ah.... now you finally decide to buy more shirts.

Haha! I can relate to this with lil' one.

Yak yak yak non-stop. When it's quiet, it's strange.

When we were on organised tour, the tourguides will always say the bird is chirping behind. The moment it's quiet, they'll turn and look and she's asleep. And after a period of quiet, suddenly hear noise and the bird is up 😂

Discharged n back on her bed.

Doc have no idea what's wrong, tho palpitation was coming down, it's still not the normal range. They observed her for 2+hrs hooked to the vital stats machine, n she pouts her lips every time the machine beep coz she knows it says "HR high" and she'll either tell me "I want to go home", "I want to go to school" (after that in the car "there's FCE tmrw, I want to cook." ( So gian to cook, I'll make her cook at home for all of us.)

WAS IT AN ORDEAL?

Not really, coz when we went to A&E it was purely for further tests. But when we were ushered in almost immediately even with the crowd, I sensed their urgency in tending to her first. So throughout our 4hrs there, she was perfectly fine yakking away albeit the slight raised temperature n . It's akin to like we were in a clinic just to see a doctor and not there for the MC. I think the ordeal part would be me going through the ordeal of listening to her grouching about wanting to go school, to play with friends etc...

SHOULD U OPT OUT OF THIS VACCINE?

I'm not here to tell you that you should or should not opt out of this vaccine, it's all up to you. I opted for it coz of a few reasons. And also every child is different, their body react differently to it. The giddiness n fever is one of the effects, not all got it.

She got 'lucky' n experienced both (if only she's lucky to strike lottery) + palpitation. Unfortunately, palpitation into the second day wasn't normal and that warrants the HPB doctor to ask her to get it checked out, which we did not knowing that at 4+pm her heart was still 💓 fast.

It's a learning curve for us, they gave us a letter to pass to HPB to inform caution when giving 2nd dose in ...Sec 2? I would know / be more mentally prepared when I decide to let che-che go for hers.

DAD's DEDUCTION (WHICH SOUNDS LOGICAL but NOT MEDICALLY PROVEN)

Ah gong came down upon hearing the news and came down just as we were at the pharmacy. And he said that fixed amount of dosage given to all kids, when shot into kids of bigger size - impact not so bad, she's so small and compact, impact felt stronger. Haha!

MC/PE

Doc immediately gave 2 days MC, said she'll cover her 3-4 days until I told her it's Friday tmrw then she changed to 2 days. (But she went to school in the daytime!) And I'm not concerned over the MC, if she's fit and before she starts nagging at me she wants to go to school I'll send her in coz she's the mummy. But even without the MC if she's not well, I can cover her with my letter. I'm only more concerned about PE coz she may feel left out and joins in unknowing to any/or not hidden condition.

They're playing caution and gave her 2 weeks off PE.

LEARNING CURVE

This girl ah…..since born make me do so many things.

I never had to deal with it with che-che. They're at different end of stick for almost everything. If got 3rd kid, I sure expert 7 (hehe!)

She was hospitalised before, ENT specialist, height/ weight concerns, curve spine, this! So troublesome.

The only good thing is my kids are damn strong, despite any incidents, they're able to lift up their spirits and found humour in it. They weren't frowning eyebrows and pretended to be in great 'labour' pain.

It does pain a parent when they see their kids suffering but I've learnt to make a joke out of them when it happens, not coz I'm not concerned abt them but it's to diffuse the situation.

At least I know when that active girl is feeling sloppy it means she's really down and out. At least I know if che-che really frowns her eyebrows it means she's in great pain. I know for sure che-che has higher pain threshold. Lil' one now had been experiencing cramps (not sure if it's puberty thingy but monitoring it) tell me "you dunno how painful it is." "Wait till you feel labour pain, this is nothing compared to it "🫤

"ANY MEDICAL HISTORY"

No drug allergies, but if doc asks l'll only state the necessary. This time it suddenly dawned upon me she had heart murmurs before and it did clear up, I know that's common but che-che didn't have any. So I brought it up to them but they said it's no concern.

Phew!

And now I have one more to add in for her.

Wah seh! Che-che's medical history is only one, lil' one's medical history is a list - just as cheong hey as this girl.

BP MACHINE / THERMOMETER

Before I left the hospital, talked to the doc on her normal BP and heart rate range. So I can continue monitoring her at home. She always say she don't feel anything, maybe for fear that she won't get to attend school etc.. (even doc also shake head. Weird patient) So I'd keep track at home and if anything goes up, l'd send her in again.

Ohh cool.... I decided to use hubby's machine and thankfully his is able to measure heartbeat too.

Otherwise I'll have to be a sinseh to take pulse.

But she's so skinny that the cuff is loose on her arm, going round and round, I know there's another point to take bp so quickly messaged brother on location.

PARENTING

I think I've grown wiser after parenting 2 diff kids, no wonder I have more white hairs than hubby. Parenting kids is a lot of slap head 🤦🏻‍♀️ moments. I have more of such moments with lil' one and that doesn't mean I love her more or less over the other. She gets all the nicknames from me 'nottie girl, lil' grandma, my mother, smelly hair, chilli padi, ikan bilis, skinny girl, blue sotong' and still love her just as she is. The package sent to me comes like that, I cannot return to sender 😜. First one was DHL box, this one is Smartpac envelope.

Thank goodness I stopped at 2, I wouldn't know how to manage more.

So tired now, need to sleep awhile before checking on her in another hour. Goodnight.

Ps. I slept all the way for 6hrs!! I didn't hear my alarm clock!! 😜

correct her the 公园. Sing song, In between complaining hungry.. N when I turn into my carpark I realize no noise. Lil' girl "fainted" from hunger.

I get this kind of unforgettable argumentative rides with her.

Peach gum

Saw some leftover pandan leaves in the fridge and what else to cook - my fav peach gum 😬 a cheapo version of birds nest

Soaked on 19th wed afternoon. 

Left bottle from Hockhua and right packet (which according to Mr Yong this is very clean; very little dirt to remove). I can’t make any comparison as it was the first time I started cooking peach gum. 

A huge difference between the two, I see even lesser dirt from the ones in new bottle. 

Thurs 20th evening - finally found the time to sit down and clean. The new ones bloomed into a huge ball of gum 🤣. Too tired after cleaning, chucked the whole bowl in the fridge

Toasted bread - 23/8

Two consecutive days out was enough to drain me. I buay tahan and decided to stay home today to clear out the fridge.

I dug out this cutesy little toaster that I haven’t used in years. It was hiding behind my Thermomix accessories—out of sight, out of mind! 😜 Honestly, as nice as toasted bread is, a sealed-edge toaster is leychey. Especially when I had to dig out 3 items just to reach out for the toaster. I usually just slap two slices together and pop them in the oven that is outside.

That reminded me of the days I used to make toasted bread for Che-Che when she was in secondary school and JC. Sometimes, her friend K would ask for one too, so I'd prep extra. But those old oven sandwiches are totally different from these modern, sealed-edge toasties!

Bought this no nasties ham months ago, but coz I had it in the freezer the whole time I wasn’t too bothered with the expired ham 🤭. While looking for cheese, I saw that I still have these Japanese sliced food sheets. Goes to show that we rarely eat bread at home, or rather how often do we eat breakfast at home. 

Having said that, I would love to make my own ham one day. I found this on YouTube. 

No cheese but it’s ok, hubby was going out to pack their lunches so I tasked him to help me buy a pack home. He came back with a promotional 3 packs melty cheese. Oh great! Now I have to deliberately eat bread to clear the remaining 34 slices of cheese.

I didn’t want to make a mess on the stove so chose this easy way out with the eggs. Look at egg #2 - can see an imprint of Charlie Brown. So cute! If only I can get hold of Miffy & Moomin sandwich plates. 

I haven’t used this for a few years so kinda forgot when I should remove the bread, one chaotar bread 🤭.
