Over the stove and oven

Had been procrastinating the pancake thing for too long already. Today, got down to doing it.

Recipe :

INGREDIENTS: 2 cups all-purpose flour, stirred or sifted before measuring
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • PREPARATION:

Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, combine egg and milk; add to flour mixture, stirring only until smooth. Blend in melted butter. Cook on a hot, greased griddle, using about 1/4 cup of batter for each pancake. Cook until brown on one side and around edge; turn and brown the other side. Recipe for pancakes serves 4.

You know what's the funniest thing, I remembered to get the eggs but forgot the milk. So... I decided to use Athena's EnfaKid. Hee! End result, it didn't taste as dairy nice to me coz' of the milk I used but Athena's happy with it. Hey! It's the one and only pancake with all the DHA, AHA and dunno what other As inside okay hor?

The bear on the left is the first piece. Put too close to the fire and it's chao-tah.
Left : first piece for this Hello Kitty. Look! This time round I was afraid of chao-tah.. ended up looking quite uncooked. Hee!
Athena enjoying the pancakes. Bottom left pictures looks like she's forced to thumbs up for me. Hahaha!
It's easy to do the pancakes but very tiring, having to stand infront of the hot stove frying one piece by piece. That's why I hate cooking!
Of course I did the smartest thing. Mass produced in bulk then put them in freezer.

    **************************************************************
I am tired but I just got to do the cupcakes. Fine tune my cupcakes to make it nice. Change a little variation.
Threw in Hershey's semi-sweet chocolate chips and walnuts for the plain- looking ones. As for the brown ones, I melted the remaining chocolate chips and stired into the remaining mix. Umm... that one is nice.
(in this picture, you notice some nice ones and some seemed too little for the liner. That's because the liner is too big for the cupcake holder. I used both the muffin tin and those unsightly ones are silicone Wilton cupcake cups.)

No doubt all the chocolate chips kindda sink to the bottom coz' of weight.
My supporter helped herself to the cuppie even before asking me for permission
The chocolaty ones. The top looks hard and I can't explain why

    Aricia enjoying herself
The nice ones are packed up for mom
    And these are ours!

    4 hours flat out!!

It's PH and I thought it'd be nice to bring the kids out with helper. I asked Athena where she wanted to go, her reply was Harbourfront - no way I'm going that far!

I just never learn my lesson right? Close to 4 hours and I'm flat out. Goash! Two kids fighting; two kids never stop playing; one kid kept taking things from the shelf in supermarket and refuse to let go of them; scream and kick in public.

First stop was to have our lunch (quite late for us as we fed Aricia @ home) at Delifrance. When I was leaving the place, there was this irritating guy that was about to come into the cafe. And he was so persistent in having a particular 4 seater when he was alone (or maybe he was expecting someone). The staff wanted to show him another seat but he refused and kept insisting on sitting that table when they haven't even cleared the table (customers just left). Then one small girl - read this : one small girl - asked for a table and you know lah! She said "can I sit there?" very innocently and that idiot man told her off in a stern voice "that's my seat!" Crazy man - he just reminded me of this man.
Oh! Aricia was so funny, when the waiter stood to take my order, she turned towards him and mumbled to him. Looks like she was placing order as well.

Second stop, ELC. Athena missed that place so much. I bought her something.

Third stop, an indoor playground where the 2 of them had a good time. Aricia managed to climb the stairs herself and she's really happy, going down the slide on her tummy.

    Fourth stop, ToysRUs

Fifth stop, MarketPlace. Where I paid for the most expensive pumpkin! Happy that I found the Betty Crocker Chocolate Frosting - been looking for it for quite some time.

Sixth stop, to the carpark. I'm tired. Plus I need to do the pancakes, been putting off for quite some time already.

    Photo time!!
    In Delifrance
See how she eats her eclair - she licks the filling
See how che-che eats hers? She digs out the filling
    In ELC
    Indoor playground

In this 1st picture, notice she slided down on her own. It was the 2nd time she went up and che-che was trying to position herself that mei-mei had to deliberately slide herself off che-che's grip.

    Mumblings

    Woah ho ho
Can't believe this! Mr FedEx came with my stuffs this morning!! And I've only managed to finalize the order on Tuesday night coz' I was interrupted during the day (+ don't forget my blogs are usually posted out late) .

Talk about the Japanese being very efficient. They really live up to their reputation!!

Woah ho ho... I'm laughing. I'm smiling, I'm.....makes me wonder if that's how the smiling sign in their logo comes about.

    Presenting >>>

Anyway, if hubby took up that offer in Amazon (Amazon leh.... I'm their 老 客), we would have been in Japan - no need for all those hunting for Japanese stuffs. By then my children will plih plah in Japanese very well.. and I'll be an expert in bento-ing. Hee!

While I was busy decorating cuppies......
the girl was eating apricots and kicking her heavy diapers. It's the Punggol Cup Football Season. Goal!

    She's gotta be joking!
Today as I passed the cuppies to teacher Mumta, she asked me if I still had my uniform and if I mind bringing it to show the children on the day she's teaching on occupations :pilots etc... Then she startled me further" do you mind coming in your uniform"
I burst out laughing "I can't wear my uniform now." Muah haha..... When I was wearing blue, I was only 48kg leh. How to fit my big hips & bid backside now?? Don't say the bottom half, top half can't even zip up.
I suggested that Athena can come in with the uniform, she has the authentic one, not those souvenir types.

    Deh Deh Deh Deh Dah
Aricia's Deh Deh Deh Deh DAH(Dora) is coming to town in May. Click here. Tempted to bring her for the show, but we can only make it on the 1st June - last show. Umm.. see if have chance to pass by those ticketing counters and see if it's worth going.

    Impossible request
Yesterday Athena ask me the most ridiculous and impossible thing.
"Mummy, how come I never learn to write the Japanese words?"
ABC and chinese words already have problem tracing over the dots, you think I'll let her learn to write Japanese?

    Blogging
I get this question if I'm worried about my privacy being invaded when I'm blogging. My answer is no coz' I am in control over what I write, if there are some things that others deemed private which I don't and I write, it's not private lor!
Umm.. let's see, my paranoid brother was the one who went "what? write for the whole world to read??" can't blame him for the conservative-ness but look - I've got 1000 over entries now and it just keeps me going writing the most boring things in my life.
How about if I worry about our photos being used. Um! Not at the moment, apart from the joke that I've placed my hope on Aricia being our future Miss Universe, there's no concern over people using her photos or Athena's or mine. Well, if anyone happens to see my face in some porn site one day it's digitally altered for sure coz' people who knows me; knows I'm not well endowed. Haha!

    Thought I'd be rich
I thought I'd be rich when I saw this guy looking in my direction and the bottom half of his face almost resembles Mas Selamat. No, it can't be him this guy is even plumper and think - would he be so stupid to be in a busy area - Orchard?
Thought I'd be laughing to the bank with the reward $$ and go for a lipo.
    My hopes are dashed!

    ROCFISH
Athena's allowed to go for this school excursion this Saturday to 'can't remember what's the name'church. Why? Only the K2 and StudentCare are given, so must go. ROCFISH kids leh! I also want to go.

    Sleeping with me
Lil' Aricia slept with me on Wednesday night and I'm glad she didn't wake up. Maybe what I did was to carry her over just as I am about to turn in myself, so that she won't get distracted by the typing noise in the room. These days I feel like having the 2 of them sleeping with me, but I may end up being sandwiched.Come next Wednesday Aricia's sleeping with me again. Yay!
Funny! She wakes up rather early when she's with the che-che and KZ. But when she sleeps with me, she wakes up later than me. Maybe... she woke up and saw the mother still snoring away and then decide to sleep again? She woke up at 9+. Hee!

    Easter Treats

I'm Easter Bunny, hopping around to give small treats to children. I have lesser children to give this year - 3 children lesser to give from Athena's violin class.
For her YJC friends (gave out yesterday), I bought them a whole pack of Cadbury Mini Eggs. This year I was smarter in getting them early coz' it usually runs out very fast. In each bag, I put in 2 Nestle eggs - I didn't want my 2 children to hunt so many eggs so I gave them away. The kids wouldn't know that I'm getting rid of stocks except for you; the reader.Hee! Lucky I still had those transparent bags to pack them up.
Last treats for the children in her school coz' next year onwards I won't be doing anything like this for her classmates. More children and I can't be giving them one pack of Mini eggs, so I repacked them looking like a little nest using muffin cups and yellow twigs - FYI the yellow strips can be eaten. Athena kept eating as I was packing them. Can never forget my lil' di-di (Ignatius) he had the most and I gave him the mini eggs + Nestle chocolates... eh....don't think he'll eat. Oh not my business, as long as I give who eat I don't care.

I put in 5 eggs in each cup. How many do you expect? Cannot lay so many what?!
All wrapped up with a bow Prepared some cuppies too. ehh..... lazy me never bake lah! How to bake 30 in my small oven and neglect my lil' naughty Aricia in the process?? 4 different pastel colours + some sinful chocolaty Nutella

The finished products. This box has "HAPPY EASTER" .. not so nice, think I used wrong piping tip and colour should be more vibrant . Oh well, this is done by an amateur

Box 2Box 3 All packed up and ready to go

Ps. I've never felt so stressed up before. Drove so slow, worry topple - which a few did. Mummy must be proud of me.... I'm such a safe driver today.
Passed to teacher Mumta at 1+ and phew! time for my brunch.Hungry! Wish I can lick the nutellas.

    Sensei's last day

Sensei Sheryl informed last week that today will be her last lesson with her as she'll be leaving end of this month. Abit sad... told you I hate partings.

And......I had to forget to buy her a gift, I'll have to pass it to her before she leaves. Goash! It was so nice of her to remember the kids and gave them a pressie each. What was her parting words to Aricia "must be a good girl...." I felt sad coz she knew how to handle this girl and I hope the new sensei will be good.

It's such a warm and thoughtful gift DIY-ed. Aricia hugged the picture frame and didn't want to let it go - cried when I took it away from her. Now it occupies a space in our room.

    **********************************
    Aricia's gift to her

    All the best sensei Sheryl!

    Headache

Athena scared me last night, she was almost done with her Berries homework when she told me "mummy I giddy". I hardly hear this from a child so the next sensible thing that I should do is to send her to bed. It was 9+, by the time she had her milk she fell asleep close to 10. I was worried about her giddiness. When she promptly dozed off, I took it that she might be too tired.

This morning, she woke up and told me "mummy my head pain". It sounds so foreign to me coz'in her 5+ years she has never complained her head pain, I didn't know that headache is = sick coz' to me all these while I've been hearing "flu, cough". Then I thought to myself 'what's the cause of headache"

    What is a headache?
Headache is defined as pain in the head that is located above the eyes or the ears, behind the head (occipital), or in the back of the upper neck. Headache, like chest pain or dizziness, has many causes.

What are the causes of headaches?
There are two types of headaches: primary headaches and secondary headaches. Primary headaches are not associated with (caused by) other diseases. Examples of primary headaches are migraine headaches, tension headaches, and cluster headaches. Secondary headaches are caused by associated disease. The associated disease may be minor or serious and life threatening.

How common are primary and secondary headaches?
Tension headaches are the most common type of primary headache; as many as 90% of adults have had or will have tension headaches. Tension headaches are more common among women than men. Migraine headaches are the second most common type of primary headache. An estimated 28 million people in the United States (about 12% of the population) will experience migraine headaches. Migraine headaches affect children as well as adults. Before puberty, boys and girls are affected equally by migraine headaches, but after puberty, more women than men are affected. An estimated 6% of men and up to 18% of women will experience a migraine headache. In the United States, migraine headaches often go undiagnosed or are misdiagnosed as tension or sinus headaches. As a result, many migraine sufferers do not receive effective treatment. Cluster headaches are a rare type primary headache, affecting 0.1% of the population. An estimated 85% of cluster headache sufferers are men. The average age of cluster headache sufferers is 28-30 years, although headaches may begin in childhood. Secondary headaches have diverse causes, ranging from serious and life threatening conditions such as brain tumors, strokes, meningitis, and subarachnoid hemorrhages to less serious but common conditions such as withdrawal from caffeine and discontinuation of analgesics. Many people suffer from "mixed" headache disorders in which tension headaches or secondary headaches trigger migraine headaches.

She didn't go to school, gave her paractemol and sent her to bed. Before I left the house for Ari's class, I asked her again. This time still hesitated and told me it's still painful until I assured that I won't bring her to school even if she's okay, and she shouldn't lie to me coz' it'll only make me worry more. She's okay and that's a great relief.
Prior to that mom called to ask what happened, if she had fell or run and bump into her classmates the day before. I should check just incase it's internal injury blah blah - which I did earlier before she called. But I can understand her anxiety for being so naggy. Infact, I feel like telling her "it's not her who ran into her friends. But me who deliberately banged my head against the wall with 2 taunting kids - by now I would have concussed and be a vegetable."

    *ponder ponder*

I don't know if I'm crazy or not, already the Shichida class is so ex I'm still thinking of enrolling Aricia in another class - JG's Playclub.

    PlayClub/华语游戏俱乐部 (English/ Mandarin). 18 months - 3 years
    Fostering self-control and autonomy
PlayClub is a stimulating learning environment that is highly enjoyable, with a curriculum structured around letters of the alphabet and key Mandarin words, numbers, shapes and colours – all organised in interesting child-centred themes and translated through activities such as indoor and outdoor play, music, art and craft, hands-on pre-science activities, stories, speech, drama and snack.

Maybe it's a good choice; maybe not. I really don't know, seeing her - she can't stay still. Maybe sending her to another class is a waste of time + money + my energy. I can do all that at home since I'm one mother who advocates that "mothers are the best teacher" but... you don't know the suffering I'm going through.sob sobApart from her daily home practice which she will sit still (no choice coz in high chair), I try to let her do others 'learn through play' and I have problem eg. chasing after her; have her snatching it away from me; trying to correct her holding onto something and she'll hold on tight and scream and cry. It takes a looooooong time to do one activity. By the time I finish one, I'm left with not much time left (gotta pick che-che up from school) or energy myself. XXXX-chinese words. I really wonder how is it that I cannot lose weight with the stress running around.

The only thing that I've successfully taught her is her alphabets. Numbers recognition? Wah... I teach 1 she runs away. I run after her, carry her back she cries. Distract her abit, change strategy and with a positive mind, use magnet 1 and show her 1 flashcard & ask her to pick it up for me, she sweeps the magnets around the floor. Sigh...you say I should give up or not? perhaps a school might help her then I reinforce again at home - that is if she can sit through the class (unlikely) that is if teacher knows how to handle her (unlikely too? coz' I tell you this girl needs lots lots of patience, which I'm surprised that I have. And I only became murderous last week during her Shichida class- today is no better, dunno why?)

Perhaps the way to solve this whole problem is to send her for intervention - see whether if she's ADHD or is it coz' she's very rebellious; assertive and blah blah blah - anything that suggests she's more like a boy + hyperactive. Someone please remind me to call Mt E, I suspect I brought back the wrong baby. It was a busy day that day, maybe in the state of confusion they tagged the wrong baby....

Or, another way is to send me to madhouse and I'll ignore the children forever. Don't bloody care about what music lesson, enrichment classes for them.

Should I go for the trial class?

    Aricia and her favourite da-da

Aricia was so sweet when I got back home. Calls me "ma.............meeee............." and hugs my leg. Maybe she knows I bought her something.

When I showed her the book, she squealed "da...da" and refused to let go. Even when I tried to open it and went behind to use the scissor to cut, she screamed and followed me.

I was so intrigue by her response and kept snapping, until I realised she is wearing her Baby Einstein shirt and short. Matching!

    Shopping is so much fun..

Was in Ngee Ann City after gym so it gave me good opportunity to shop; shop and shop. Sounds like I was on a shopping spree huh? In reality no, I needed to check on the bento books that Ros mentioned to me. First stop, children's section to find books for Aricia.

Found this! You can take out the shapes inside, hidden word behind eg. oval, circle then let child put it back

Second stop, my parenting section. Purpose there is to see if there's any interesting book; take down title and then try to borrow from library. Hee! I'd rather buy books for the children not myself.

    Third stop, Japanese section
Wah... I see the wordings until my eyes curve here and there - headache! Spoilt for choice, not like I'm bento-ing for my children everyday (aiyah, I can't cook lah! - hopeless mother)that I need to buy so many books right?

    Bought this - おいしい!楽しい!園児のおべんとう

At the same time I need to see what other children materials they have, thought of getting the Japanese Thematic Dictionary for them. No luck! I saw one book though it isn't what I'm looking for but I will wait for Shichida's shipment. Instead I bought this sentence flashcard in Japanese for Aricia

    ぶんカード 1集

Back at home, the shopping never stops. Destination is still in "my cyberspace Japan". Since they don't have one bento book I'm looking for. I've decided to online shopping, click click click and wait for parcel. So simple....... yah that is until my credit card bill comes.

    Dear Mr Rain,
Please come for the next one month. I promise I'll never step out of the house. I promise I'll never spend any penny. I promise I'll be drinking rain water for the rests of the month.
    Signing off,
    Me!

    My online buys :
Couldn't find this in Kinokuniya, they don't bring in anymore
    おべんとう大事典748レシピ―おいしいおべんとう作りを応援します!

As I searched.... this tempted me. So cute!
    ディズニーキャラクターのおべんとう
I had better do a nice bento and tasty bento for her siah!

.. shopping is so much fun when all you need to do is to move your hands and your purchases will come to your doorstep.

Check out this cute girl singing the Bento Box Song

Abit off the track, but I was so in love with this girl. Hear her sing Japanese songs. The first song she's singing is Aricia's favourite : 犬のおまわりさん. Oh... how I wish Aricia can sing it like her.

    A hunch

Umm.... they say a mummy's hunch is always correct, and this statement is correct.

Brought Aricia to see a doctor for her (I thought it was) fake cough. Turned out it's real cough and she didn't have much appetite on Saturday night, refused her milk. So asked Dr Tan to check on her throat if she's having any sore throat or maybe bloated-ness.
True enough she's having a little sore throat, given a dose of antibiotics and .... have to watch out for fever. He asked if I needed any paractemol, laughed when I told him I have ample supply at home and I can sell to him. Of course lah! With my girl in the risk of having febrile fits I'll stock up suppositories as well.
Cancelled her vaccination for tomorrow. Okay, I better hit the gym tomorrow.

    My 爱心 lunchbox

I wanted to try to make 爱心 lunch for Athena. I tried it for the first time today and I don't know how to cook or rather what to cook for her (she's a real fussy eater). I had no idea what to put inside her box coz' I don't know how to decorate her box nicely for her. Argh! I 沒心 learn, Ros told me she bought some bento books from Books Kinokuniya. I'm going to check that out one day maybe tomorrow since I can't gym today.

The lunch box as you can see really has nothing nutritious - 空心. It has ham rolled up and shaped seaweed on top. A container to put dark sauce. If only my picky girl eats teriyaki meatballs, I can pretend that I cooked that for her (pop in microwave and say mummy cook for her) Had to ask mom to complete my 爱心 lunchbox for her which is currently 半心. The white colour thing below the hams is egg shaped in star - what star? what 星? Put in my 星(心) 又不像星(心) egg. What a failure!

So, this sums up my supposedly to be a 爱心 lunchbox for her. It's filled with 空心, 半心, 沒心, 星(心) 又不像星(心) and now it's 满满心 all compact inside that small box for her. Ooh! Wait till mom sees what I did, she'll give me a 骂心 - "how can you give her so little rice? How come so cold?"

Most importantly I must have a 不 要 放弃心 and 頑張って (gambatte!)

Ps. Looks like I must change a microwave safe lunchbox for her.

    Mouse Story

    This is interesting ............
    Mouse Story

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package. "What food might this contain?" The mouse wondered - he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.
Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning. "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said,"Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it."
The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The pig sympathized, but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers." The mouse turned to the cow and said, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose."
So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap-- alone. That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.

The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital and she returned home with a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with a chicken so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient. But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig. The farmer's wife did not get well; she died. So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.

The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.

So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, remember -- when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one anotherand make an extra effort to encourage one another.

    Very frustrating

Aricia is coughing now. I'm suppose to gym tomorrow, looks like I can't do so coz' I'll be delaying her time to see the doctor. (if I gym, I'll be out whole day since will need to run errands in Orchard + Athena's chinese class in the evening). Sigh...................

All thanks to you know who, who don't practice self-confinement, leave me in the lurch with a sick child and I'm having a sore throat (better now) too + scared if will pass to Athena.

Have to cancel her vaccination too, it's her 1st DPT booster. Goash! If it's going to be pushed back to next week, means next week I'll have a very busy week. Moo Han, we might have to push back the san-ba gathering again. I haven't informed them yet.

15th - trying to self-feed. Ehh.... I should say using her fingers to self-feed. Yucks! Needless to say I had to shower her twice in a span of one hour
