Restarting the documenting on our meals.
Haven’t been cooking since we got back from our holiday on the 10th. The work around the house kept me busy + fell sick. So….
20th Jan (Mon)
To start cooking 10 days after touch down is a feat for me 😂. Better still, don’t cook.
Steamed prepacked chicken and chawanmushi with the rice, stir fry broccoli and carrot. That’s it!! If only every meal is as simple as this 🤣. Hubby opened the marinated mushroom I bought from Sheng Siong - tastes like the one in HDL. Lucky we have a SS opposite us, looks like this is something that I will top up frequently in my fridge. Lil’ one likes this too.
Forgot to take pic coz they all started eating even before I stepped out of the kitchen.
22nd Jan (Wed)
Lil’ one ends school at 3pm. I woke up at 9am was just so sleepy when I woke up so hubby offered to send her to school. Spent time ironing some clothes and bedsheets that were hung up since Sat!!! It’s still a little damp.
Recipe taken from : https://www.bearnakedfood.com/2015/01/30/lu-rou-fan-braised-pork-rice/
Cooked it before and liked it so just continue using this recipe. What about the Thermomix recipe ?? I bought Thermomix for a reason - less cleaning. Turns out I still end up using the stove 😂. Recipe calls for 500g pork but I only bought 300+g. This dish is a hit and miss, the girls liked it then they didn’t like it. Now? I have no idea. But I’m running out of ideas on what to cook.
Left home at 2.35pm to pick lil’ one. When can I stop the school runs? Came back at around 3.35pm, an hour later. Rested awhile before I start cooking next 2 dishes. I normally take a long time to cook coz I tend to rest in between cooking. Anyway, second dish took me a long long time to do - coat and deep fry 15 pieces of chicken.
I cheated on this dish. 手羽から
Didn’t sprinkle sesame seeds coz I know the girls will take the seeds out one by one.
This is the 手羽先 the girls fought over in NGO 😂
Not related to cooking. Bought this oil solidifier from Daiso and trying it. Sure makes clearing easier.
3rd Feb (Mon)
Has it been that long since I last cooked for the family? 😂 I’m pretty sure I did cook one more time after 22nd.
Was trying to clear some stuffs in fridge and freezer which led to hubby’s instruction to just cook something soupy. Today’s dinner is the extreme lazy kind. If only I can do this all the time. Throw whatever stuffs in the soup, want vegetables 有 vegetables, want chicken 有 chicken.
Left with only one pack of collagen, which I bought for 2024 CNY (I think) or maybe 2023 CNY? 😱 Don’t fret expiry is 5/10/25. Then I count how many fishball /chicken fillet/scallops/pork belly etc.. lil’ one and che-che can eat then cook. We used to laugh over my 阿姑 who cooks XX/YY pieces of prawn for this person with ketchup and another person with another preference. I’m in that same situation now.
I cooked both girls’ udon with the small portion collagen (wasn’t enuf for the 3 of them) but sieved out dry for che-che first. I will put in her soup to cook and soak up the broth when she’s ready to eat. Hubby cooked for himself with whatever he wants with chicken stock. As for myself? I have no idea why I’m feeling so queasy the whole day, I’ll probably just munch on bread and drink milo later.
Lil’ one’s with the last 4 fishball, chicken fillet and udon
Che-che’s meal served with her 舞子はんひひ. So spicy until can dance like a 舞子 after that.
On the topic of collagen
There are a variety of ready cooked broth for lazy people like me available here.
(1) Chu collagen : Ingredients are simply chicken, salt and ginger. But this only 500ml and no need to add water. Anyway since it’s good only for 1-2 person, I can only cook for the 2 girls or cook twice for 1 kid.
(2) 1Chi-yo : I’ve seen this in NTUC before but never tried it. Ingredients for chicken collagen are chicken, salt and ginger similar to Chu Collagen. Pork, ginger and spring onion goes into their pork collagen. Both are sold as 250g which is 250ml (?)
They have in cubes as well, but I suppose it only makes sense if I’m cooking for a baby I just pop one to two cubes each time, I don’t think it’s that thick to allow dilution.
(3) Mr Joy’s Beauty Collagen : Sold as 500ml. The ingredients list is so long - Chicken Bones, Chicken meat, Chicken extract, Chicken Flavour Seasoning, Yeast Extract, Rice Wine, Pork Lard, Non-dairy cream powder, Refined Japanese Sake, Ginger Powder, Salt. Wow! While we will find worth to pay that much since they put in so much ingredients as compared to the first 2 collagen with only 3 ingredients, I hate to see the ‘flavour seasoning’ in it.
It’s not advisable to use this for steamboat. Once I had to buy 6-8 packs for our hosted CNY dinner, took up so much space in the freezer that the whole freezer was packed to the brim. I was so fearful of opening the freezer incase anything dropped on me from all sides.
(4) Chicken bone broth powder from Scoops : Note that this is chicken bone broth not chicken collagen. I bought the liquid form before not this powder and honestly didn’t like the taste, maybe my dilution ratio was wrong 😂. This powder only requires 1 tablespoon to 200ml of water. I’m not sure the ingredients into making this powder but if the liquid form is as simple and natural, I’m sure the powder will be free from additives and all the EEE flavourings and blah blahs. For sure price will not be cheap too.
How about cooking it myself? There’s a Thermomix recipe for collagen broth. Really weird that they ask to put 2.6 litres of water when maximum is 2.2 litres. And I’m suppose to put the chicken carcass inside, won’t it overflow? Hmm… what a strange recipe.
6th Feb (Thu)
Haven’t (1) steamed pomfret for a very very long time
(2) Chicken recipe from spicenpan, original recipe used drums but coz I’m lazy with the bones and all + I was clearing the stir fry chix
(3) Puey Leng chai. This time I did cut the veggie short
11th Feb (Tue)
1. Fried cod (which che-che finished the whole big piece)
2. Mapo tofu. Fastest to cook coz I use premix 🤣
3. Teochew style steam pomfret. Turns out better today, not so salty.
4. Fried puey ling chai.
Used this small pan coz I was lazy to take another pan. Kinda reminds me of the single Japanese ladies cooking for themselves (small portion) I watched from YouTube
Since I’m at it. Fried sukiyaki pork for lil’ one’s lunch next day.
17th Feb - 14th Mar : was on solo so on some days I also cooked their lunch. Putting them in here for record purposes only. My apologies if you’re reading double or triple posts. I may have missed out some days as pics were removed from phone.
19th Feb (Wed)
Mee hoon kueh for dinner
20th Feb (Thu)
Cooked basil pork on 19/2.when did I give?
Cooked fried rice on 19/2.when did I give?
22nd Feb (Sat)
Lunch for girls before I left for NEX with che-che to meet Marcus. I’ve already scooped out someone’s portion before I remembered to take a picture.
Hmm….just what is the crispy thing that is served in Tim sum restaurant with their peh dan chok? I bought wanton skin but it’s wrong. *maybe I’ll try popiah skin next time.
24th Feb (Mon)
Katsu + rice. Suppose to do katsudon but I broke the dark soy sauce as I was reaching out for mirin. Argh! After all the cleaning up I didn’t have the mood to make life more tiring for myself.
The girls had a pork cutlet each while I had my rice with my kyorayu furikake. Honestly this is what I’d love to have - non complicated food. Even an egg with rice n black soy sauce or chaipoh can satisfy my tummy.
京ら一油ふりかけ (paid ¥594 for one pack)
26th Feb (Wed)
Black noodles for tonight’s dinner. This was fried a day before, coz I anticipated that I would be busy the next day and the next next next 😫
3rd Mar (Mon)
Katsu curry for dinner
5th Mar (Wed)
2 girls with different taste. One likes her food boiled / steamed; the other likes it fried. The only thing that both agrees on this meal is chawanmushi.
Salmon with ketchup, fried cod, chawanmushi
10th Mar (Mon)
Lunch for che-che. This is the only dish which she can have for both lunch and dinner without complaints 🤭
I had this for lunch coz I needed to clear the freezer
12th Mar (Wed)
Ipoh hor fun for lil’ one. At least she’s starting to eat mushroom
Che-che’s and I swear she is taking out all the small pieces of onions. My goodness!
Was asking lil’ one if she prefers this Ipoh hor fun or the other horfun which I’ve only cooked once. She couldn’t recall when I cooked, I forgot also.
Screenshot this as reference
Oh my! I cooked this ‘the other horfun’ in 2021!! I felt like it was only last year I cooked this.
13th Mar (Thu)
Cooked this before, must have been dinosaur years ago 😂, actually it was way back in 2016. Gasp!
Can’t remember which recipe I used before, found this new recipe.
Tweaked the recipe. I didn’t use 1.5 cups of rice which equates to 300g, I didn’t use that much chicken fillet and garlic paste.
Note : I seasoned the salmon / chix with salt n ground pepper prior to cooking. Poured a little onion powder just before removing from pan.
Also seasoned the rice with some onion powder before pouring the mushroom soup and cheese over.
I only cooked for them. This casserole looks suitable for 3 but it’s not when it’s meant to be a casserole dish. Anyway I only cooked 120g of rice. Oh well! I shall just eat the otah for now n cook instant noodles for self later if I’m still hungry. Or maybe I can eat my Nutella.

First time trying the 生にんにく and I love it. I put a little on the uncooked rice before cooking the rice and it has a subtle garlic smell. I’m a convert now, shall buy a bigger tub or bottle. If only they have ねぎ, I won’t have che-che taking out every small pieces.
18th Mar (Tue)
Only needed to cook for 3 as che-che is out with friends.
Easy dinner as I decided to steam everything today. Dinner ready in 15mins + 3.5mins in Ms Thermie. No mess in kitchen. LOVE THIS ! I should find more recipes where I can steam, makes life easier for self.
Veg - with oyster & sesame oil
Fish - prepared marinade separately and poured on fish after removing the steamed water collected in plate. Marinade : soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, one teeny weeny drop of dark soy sauce for colour.
My food always look so unappetising with no garnishes 😂.
Lil’ one likes her steamed fish this way, she doesn’t like the “tohchew sour sour” style 🤭. She almost finished the fish leaving little for daddy. I should have steamed two pomfrets. Next meal, next meal I shall steam two
