Celebration

For years, many many donkey years, lil’ one never had the chance to have any birthday celebration with her friends. The last one she had was in 2015, at 9 yrs old.

So why no celebration? Mainly a few reasons :
1) it’s always nearing exam period so weekends are really precious
2) usually have enrichment classes/tuitions on weekends, so if I have a celebration it means I’ll have to make up on another day. Ok, you might think just once a year ….
3) I’m lazy to start the birthday planning and make myself super busy
4) the presents! A lot of times we end up with lots of unwanted presents and donated to SArmy. Why can’t everyone give angpow? It’s so much more practical as it will go into her savings.
But I’m guilt stricken as it is for giving her lesser than che-che.

This year, she was so excited when her seniors (her OIAP Taiwan group) decided to celebrate for the baby of the group. So sweet right? They have come to the age where birthday celebrations are better done without the parents. The parents will only invite the other old folks 🤣🤣 - family members - which the birthday girl will not talk or play with during a celebration. So now I know why some people like to have two separate weddings, one for family and the other for friends. I attended such wedding before and the vibes of the youngsters group is just so different - rowdy, noisy and it’s really fun.

They had decided to do it on 16th just before they go for their internship. Such a nice group of friends, they took care of her. One girl even loaned her her jacket when she was cold. They had superb camaraderie played hard and worked hard, no wonder she really enjoyed that trip so much.

So after much discussion with them, it seems that they had a line of program lined up. The kids are just making full use of the time.

Feeling guilty that she won’t get to be out with her friends on her birthday, asked her to just get a few of her close friends out. Honestly we don’t have any days left between now and her birthday as she has to go for therapies. She asked 5 friends and unfortunately 2 can’t make it. She was pretty sad that her good friend since P1 won’t be around in SIN, but we can’t help it. A 3rd girl also gave her that “maybe yes maybe no” answer. Thing is, she says maybe she can come after 5.30pm. So when we asked again if we chose to do something at 5.30pm would she be able to make it, she gave that “maybe…” I tell you I hate this kind of answer. I shared my thoughts with lil’ one, what if we really chose evening time just to suit her timing as the other 2 are free the whole day then she cannot come, isn’t she like sabotaging us? So heck lah! You give me that kind of “maybe maybe” answer then I’m more certain that my hunch is always right that she will not come at all. Or worst play us out last minute on the day itself.
