My week/s

Haven't been able to update it in time (again). Massive updates!

14th (Sunday)
Athena chanced upon the origami book I bought quite some time back as I was doing some re-organising and asked to try it out.

15th (Monday)
Went to the new school to collect her shoes and to try to get some stuffs from the bookshop. It's still not available. At the same time brought her for a walk around the school; looking for her classroom. Couldn't find it, from a distance I thought I saw a classroom but wasn't sure. Athena asked me and I jokingly told her that "that's the detention corner". But I really can't find her classroom so I think that's her class. And what do you think I briefed her about? The same kiasu thing that my mom taught me "sit in the first row, in the middle"
Can't wait for orientation day.

After school, brought them to Downtown East for some fun @ Explorer. Dunno why Aricia is so scared now, had problem bringing her around the tubes and what nots, she was clinging tightly and screaming.. and you know when you have a struggling child; it's so difficult to carry her and try to balance myself. And worst still - when it's my first time going in with her and I don't even know where I was heading for.

I didn't sleep the whole night (serious!) - was rushing through some artwork to make Thank You gifts for the teachers in her school. So when they wanted to sit down to do some crafts, I agreed and sat down on the floor leaning against the 'mushroom' and fell asleep. With me falling asleep for that 20 mins, and them doing the crafts I had to pay extra hour in Explorer Kids. Worth it? Not worth it for them coz' I can easily do the crafts with them @ home but it's worth it for me. Hahaha!

16th (Tuesday)
My long awaited parcel finally came. This is the last batch of educational stuffs. But I do have one more parcel which is being sent direct to my home not via VPost and it's still not here!! It's already been coming to 2 months. And it's the most important parcel coz' it's filled with our Christmas cards and some small gifts. I had to purchase something from Myphotoalbum to maintain my account. Normally I don't purchase anything from my online album, would prefer to end subscription and change to another one. But this time, I thought it'd be good to have my childrens' faces in the Xmas card. What a wrong decision I've made! No sign of parcel - how? I don't have enough time to send out new cards (and what if the parcel comes??) - to friends overseas. Keep until next Xmas? By then the children faces also changed.
Fed up!

17th (Wednesday)
Athena has another mini-concert for her YJC class today. Brought mei-mei along and thank goodness she wasn't kicked out of the room. Athena had been practising well at home but when she was doing her solo she made alot of silly mistakes. Dunno what the heck she was doing!!

The funniest thing is that most of her classmates are more keen in giving out each other little goodies. Peggy had to stop them so many times but still was ignored. Hee! And mei-mei was looking on at what the che-ches were doing and then she ...> pulled the pacifier from her mouth and offered to Peggy. I think that's really sweet of her to offer her most precious thing (smelly pacifier) to Peggy.

At the end of the concert, Peggy played 2 Christmas songs for the children to sing. When she was playing Jingle Bells, mei-mei started shaking her pacifier (in her hand) to the rhythm. So cute!

22nd Dec - Orientation Day
The day my girl will get to meet her classmates. The day I will see to it that I will be a mega bitch and not talk to any mothers.
It's amazing how the teachers who taught when I was in primary school still look the same. They don't seem to have aged at all.

Margaret, the principal, gave a talk in the school hall. One the thing she mentioned is that there's this "thing" that is instilled in all IJ girls, confident women. And..oh yes, she said "so, all of you men here made the right choice in marrying your wives." In my mind, I was thinking - I gave my hubby another bonus. I'm mentally unsound!
I thought I saw my classmate sitting right across me. So when the talk ended, I went up to her and asked. OMG! Can't believe that I bumped into my classmate. Can't believe that once we were classmates having no worries are now mothers. A role that we never thought we could handle. It's good to catch up with her too. We weren't close in class but it's okay.. things can pick up from here. I haven't had the chance to see who I might know. On the day, so many parents - I'm overwhelmed.
Worst! When hubby had to leave the hall to take a call. I'm suddenly overwhelmed with so many forms to fill up on my own.

Blah blah blah
Some updates are over in the childrens' blogs, too tired to blog here.

Can you believe it! My parcel is not here!! So no Christmas cards to be sent out this year. I'm so disappointed. Is it lost somewhere in the ocean? Or if it's by air - got lost at Bermuda Triangle? And what the ..? I spent close to S$100 for the cards and some small gifts. I want to start cursing and swearing. #@$%
Should my parcel arrive just in time next Christmas, my children would have looked different. Perhaps recycle the cards for something else? Birthday cards? Ha! Just when I was so excited with this parcel, it had to disappoint me.

In one of the news clip, Deidre Moss of SPCA was citing that people are giving up their pets. Infact, let me quote what she said "don't give up pets due to economic downturn. They can help you reduce stress." The moment she said that, I told hubby "then, I must give up my 2 children." He got the joke and bursts out laughing "which one?" "2" - anyone up for takes?? Going to be your bestest and noisiest Christmas ever!

No time to sit down with Athena to make gifts for her teachers. Decided to send it out to printer to make mousepads. Turn out, the printout don't look good. I feel so bad....

Christmas week - Hubby cleared his leave on eve onwards till end of the year. But he don't get to enjoy his leave at all, he had to work (still). Brother is also clearing his leave and one morning he asked hubby "so.. is there anyone who can cover your duties while you're on leave? Anyone to share your job?" I stared at brother and hubby was very secretive....okay we don't tell everyone what position hubby is holding. We even get interrupted during our holidays (and I can hear his staff saying "I'm so sorry to disturb you now. Okay... enjoy yourselves.) Okay, so hubby is in the indispensible position where the company can't do without him. But then again, it can also be the dangerous spot - if the company wants to fire anyone. So at the moment, I shan't complain that he's not spending enough time with me or us during his leave. With the economic downturn, I should be grateful that he still has a job to put chocolates on our dining table & I have sufficient $$ to spend. Kekeke!

I hate the last week of December, it's all the goodbyes that we've said to friends. I hate it, it's such a sore to have the year in such sore manner!!! I hate separations! Next year onwards, I'm going to be a stuck-up; quiet bitch. I'm not going to make friends with any of my childrens' friends mothers. So that separations won't be so teary 6 years/4 years down the road. I'm going to be a mega BITCH!!!

Christmas art

It was a project that I've never done before. Naturally I made some mistakes. I didn't think that her small fingers would find the 'thin' borders difficult but nonetheless she did it on her own with 30% help from me.

Very carefully ...

End product
I love how it looks when the sunlight shines on the glass art. Oh... how I miss the beautiful cathedrals with their glass windows

Her cheap thrill fun!

Aricia

Haven't been blogging much about my lil' girl.

Lil' girl is now 2 years, 3 months (exactly)and .... (oops! forgot to bake a cake) her achievements so far. She's yakking more and she describes what happens to you in broken words. For eg : she fell down and then she starts narrating to me
Ari : mummy... ah sher fall
Me : You fell? How did you fall?
Ari : Fall down. *pause* Fish (points to fridge) bom fall down
Me : How did you fall?
Ari : Door open *pause* bom fall down... ah sher. Head head (points to head) *pause* pain... floor (points to floor)
Me : How did the door open? Did you play with the door?
Ari : (think she either didn't understand or trying to evade the question) bom fall down, head pain...(trying to laugh it off) floor
Me : Can you tell mummy where did you fall?
Ari : (points to one wrong spot) head kong floor
Me : Did you hit your backside?
Ari : (points to backside) backside floor. Ah sher fall... (laughing)

Can you guess what happened? Apparently she was holding onto our freezer door and then it opened. So we had a flying Aricia who swung together with the door and then she let go and fell on the floor.
We can vividly guess what happens in her conversation with us. But I think at this age she should be speaking in a fuller sentence. No? If yes, then I must say she is slow.
No doubt my girl starts speaking early, she has this problem with her enunciation of words. I make her speak word for word to correct her and then asks her to repeat, she makes the mistake again. Eg. I love you mummy. She says ah shiu mummy. Too playful to listen to me? Or is there really a problem with her speech?

PR Consultant
She's real good as a PR Consultant, bring her out for a while everyone looks at her and find her charmingly cute. Yah, don't deny she's cute but is very tiring to care for her.
Just a mere 3 mins while I buy takeaway from a counter, she 'talked' to 1 table of ladies.
She's not shy, she's not afraid of strangers (unless she wakes up from the wrong side of the cot that morning) and will yak to them what she's doing/eating. She always make it a point too to say hello and goodbye to the security guard at Springleaf. Next term, we'll be moving to HHub.

Miss Moody/ Miss Timid
But there are the rare days when she refuses to say hello to anyone when I tell her to. There are the rare days when she will not share her food with strangers.
Think she's a fiesty girl? She's got that timid side of her too. Bring her to shows in malls, she'll get so excited and start waving hands to the characters. But when doing the photo-taking, she's scared. Timid!

Another problem is us trying to toilet-train her. It's very difficult! She'd rather sit down and do nothing, all the whistling on our part don't help. And then she starts playing and turning around the seat and then refuse to pee/poo. Honestly speaking, I don't have the patience to sit down in the toilet and stare at her and listen to her sharp voice yakking so I assigned KZ to do it for me. Must admit and big thanks to KZ, who loves Aricia so endearingly, she does help me but really it's no use. I never had such problem with Athena. Athena was so obedient although that time I would have said she's naughty, now as I compare the 2 of them, Athena is definitely more 'guai'. I brought Athena to the seat and tell her she tries, listens and did it. And managed to wean her off diapers early. No problem with night time too, she was diaper-less and managed to remain dry.
Recently what KZ tried was to strip her off diapers in the house (that is when she's in the house whole day) and bring her to the toilet, she refuse - not even one drop. Then when she's urgent and needs to go, Aricia tells "poo poo" - yah, she says poo poo for pee pee and poo poo - bring her in also refuse. Twice she managed to drop one pathetic drop of urine in the toilet bowl and she was screaming. Then there's the time when she's really urgent, she just pee-ed and then she started crying out (she feels funny with urine on her legs) loud.

Bottle
Goash! We tried weaning her off the bottle a very long time ago but she keeps deliberately turn the bottle upside down and dirty the floor/cabinets etc..
Sad to say, at 2 years 3 months - she's still using her bottle. But then she has no problem drinking from cup when we assists her.

Self-Feeding
She can do it but makes a terrible big mess. Plays with her food and refuse to swallow food in her mouth

Graduation cum Concert 2008 - on 13th Dec

This is it! This is it! The day is here when my girl finally wears the graduation gown and motar board. Can't exactly say I am 100% very very happy coz' I am thinking "she'd never get the chance to see her classmates anymore and then it's like the end of their friendship??" - told you I am more of the sentimental freak.

Normally I don't peep in the chapel (where the children are sitting/waiting), but this time round I took the liberty to open the door and snap photos of her. Capture this moment otherwise there's no more chance until she's in her teens and she probably won't oblige to smile for me (feeling embarrassed that her mummy is poking her face everywhere) or kick me out or I probably never live that long.

The concert started and normally I pay attention to the opening speech and sermon - this time round everything is a blank to me, I was fidgeting with the camera and the lens. (I found a wide lens which was for the previous camera and it fits in this camera too!! So while they were yakking I dunno what, I was testing out)

Then it was the time when we welcome the graduating class. I tear every year and this year my eyes were more teary and when I waved to her (she kept a lookout for us) she was smiling and that feeling I felt was so ... tears of joy. Earlier on when I peep into the chapel, she was also in her gown but she was laughing and playing so it looked more like just any ordinary clothes to me. But now that she's out and acting a little serious with all the other classmates, it is a gown. I was snapping and snapping, I'm a mamarrazi. And with brother's help, he's the dua-gurrazi - we're both snapping and snapping. My motto at this time is "snap it now not a second later".
Queued to get their certificate. She finally went up the stage. I couldn't really snap the motion coz' the camera speed is damn slow!! Trust me for saying "I'm going to get a SLR for next year's concert", last year and never did it. But thank goodness I had it recorded in my video camera.

My proudest moments : -
She didn't dig her nose or put her fingers in her mouth.... but she was shaking from left to right and pouted her lips at one point. Sigh.......my children can't stand still. But on the whole very pleased with her performance.
Once everyone is handed their certificate and the Rev is given a token of appreciation, the graduands sang two songs : He Never Sleeps and 祝福

Lyrics :
Our God is able.
He is mighty.
He is faithful.

And He never sleeps, He never slumbers.
He never tires of hearing our prayer.
When we are weak He becomes stronger.
So rest in His love and cast all of your cares on Him.

Do you feel that the Lord has forgotten your need.
Just remember that God is always working in ways you cannot see.

Our God is able.
He is mighty.
He is faithful.

* Managed to get a video from Youtube.

Lyrics to : 祝福

I didn't take much photos/videos of the other performances (hubby always complain that I'm wasting the space) except for my girl's - hey! she's the star you know!!!

Performed to another two songs : Dreams and 泼水歌

Finale time - OMG! All the younger kids seem to be growing taller, I can't really see her when she's standing behind. The K1 and K2s are almost similiar height! Abit sad I couldn't capture photos and video well for the finale.

Finale Song : Amazing Love
I’m forgiven, because you were forsaken
I’m accepted, you were condemned
I’m alive and well, you’re spirit is within me
Because you died and rose again

I’m forgiven, because you were forsaken
I’m accepted, you were condemned
I’m alive and well, you’re spirit is within me
Because you died and rose again

Amazing love, carry me
My king would die for me
Amazing love, I know it’s true
It’s my joy to honor you

Amazing love, carry me
My king would die for me
Amazing love, I know it’s true
It’s my joy to honor you

I’m forgiven, because you were forsaken
I’m accepted, you were condemned
I’m alive and well, you’re spirit is within me
Because you died and rose again

It was a pleasant change to see 2 boards next to both sides of the stage, on the boards are pictures of the graduands and something they write about themselves. They should do that in the years to come.
I requested too for S and J to have photos taken together. We won't have much chance to meet much next year onwards unless I organise a playdate/birthdays. No doubt we're still seeing J in JXC. But 2 years down the road, everyone will go on separate ways after JXC also.... ai yah don't think so far. Then the children came in, soon N the naughty boy joined in and QJ too.

Well, we've come this far with Athena in LCCC for 5 years. For the last 3 years, I've made friends with only a few mummies namely Javier mummy (they left to migrate to Oz); Braxton mummy (changed school) and of course Jachelle mummy + Wei Teng mummy. Whether we remain as friends will = to whether our children will have the chance to meet next time. (which I am grateful Braxton mummy also makes an effort to keep in contact with me all these while). So as J, S and myself sat down to have that photo taken together, we said we should take another photo in 20 years time - we'd be all wrinkled up.

Outside the hall stands a small Christmas tree. And ritually every year we'd go there to have photos taken together of J and Athena. We made this our last photo ( QJ was there so we included her in)
and then S and myself heaved a sigh of relief; I was rather sad and we said goodbye to K2 life.

After which, no matter how long I try to delay standing in the church grounds - the concert has already ended and it won't bring back the concert or stall the time. It's my last time standing there as a parent of LCCC watching my child perform. And as I told S much earlier that the moment we had our back facing the church and walk down the steps, we should take each step in accordance to the educational level - Primary 1, 2, 3, 4. It probably doesn't affect her much afterall she has 2 more older boys before J whereas I am facing this the first-time so probably I get even more emotional.

** Oh, I'm glad Mrs Wong actually came by for the concert. So sweet of her.........**
Thank you LCCC for the wonderful 5 years my girl spent there!

Mini Concert

While che-che performed, the lil' ones had their own mini-concert too :

Aricia : Di-di, we have to give our Thank You speech
Aricia : "Where is my tu-tu (pacifier)??"

Huh? Over already? We haven't performed anything yet? Hey! Where are the guests?
