OMG ! [Follow follow follow up. Dehumidifier experiment #4]

 我的天啊‼️ 81% humidity

Spent some time clearing the filled containers & pouring new ones into them around the house before my much needed shower. It was a chore a dread going through the motion of washing the container, drying them with toilet paper (I used up more toilet paper.) in the heat. Was so happy when I finished the last containers and “little umbrellas”. That’s it! Another day of having the aircon and fan turned on in my room.

Ok….so this is blog 4. 

I can’t remember when I started using the little umbrellas for the wardrobes but I received them last Dec and only began using them this year after I’ve used up all the bags. Just did a first refill today. 

As the container is really small, it filled up faster than the other containers. 

Pros : (a) This is reusable. Can last longer than the hanging bags definitely

(b) so easy to hang up in the tall wardrobe without any stool 

Cons : (a) had to wash and dry the whole container. Particularly the pink part as I’d be pouring new beads in that portion. (b) was washing one container when the white “end top” dropped and I panicked, is that a decoration or for me to pour out the water? Then I realised I am suppose to remove the water from the bottom part. Then now it’s +1 more pros. Altho I wonder how secure it is, I cannot tape this part up and what if someone is so chor-lor and broke the thing? 

Do I prefer this umbrella over the bags type? Each has its pros and cons.    

Pros : (a) For the last few changes I did not clean the disgusting brown discharge in the bag and simply pour new beads. I saved toilet papers 😝. (b) Clearing the water was so easy and fast from the side. If I needed to rinse the water collection bag I can pour and swirl the water inside and pour out again. Takes a shorter time. But this can only go in the hanging wardrobe, I can’t use this for the shoe cabinet or the kitchen and toilet cabinets. 

Cons : (a) looking at the brown thing is an eyesore. (b) I need to put in new ones every 2-3weeks, with the constant change I may not want to see the disgusting thing and would want to throw it away after 3 changes, which means I’ll need to buy the refill quite often. (c) Have to ensure that the cap is closed back tightly if not I’ll get spillage in the wardrobes. (d) it’s quite difficult to hang in my tall wardrobe, I often need to bring the organ stool and climb up and down. 

So I guess it’s still more experimenting until I find a better solution. Buying the machine will take up space at home, surely that’ll be easier as all I need to do is to empty the container. Having the machine on means I need to suffocate myself in a closed windows room. Why there is no such thing as a ceiling dehumidifier? 

It’s really scary to think how much and how fast my walk-in wardrobe area accumulates all the water wealth. I have one container and 3 umbrellas in that small space. 

🍂 Frustrated 🍂

I’m just 🍂so frustrated with all the 🍂leaves dropping in my PES. Drawing 🍃the not-fully-covered blinds doesn’t help at all. I used to 🍃sweep the PES on a daily basis until I got so sick and tired of sweeping the leaves 🍂and some litters. I do it only twice a week now or if I'm even lazier once a week or when I give up on life - every fortnight.   

How bad can the leaves dropping be you might wonder. 

On normal days, I can finish sweeping the PES and less than 15 minutes later I see more than 10 leaves in the PES. 

When it’s the “naked season” the leaves just keeps dropping and dropping, even the condo cleaners have to constantly sweep up. They sweep outside I sweep inside. When it’s that season, I can be sweeping the other side of PES turn back and see more than 20 leaves on the floor. 我的天啊‼️我好累咯！ 

It's those stupid trees outside the compound, dunno simi species. I wonder if other neighbours get this same problem as I, maybe having nice northly southerly wind in my home has its disadvantages afterall - the leaves end up blowing into my PES. 

PES wearing clothes

Sometimes just so tempted to cover the whole PES up but it means the whole house will look like a dark prison. Some people likes the idea of using the PES / balcony as the dining area coz you know nowadays houses are getting smaller and smaller. According to JJ, they did the ziptrack for the unit opposite us and they converted that area to dining with custom cabinets outside. Eeeee…so weird. Why have cabinets outside? I mean I also have but it’s the outdoor cabinet to put all my plant stuffs. That unit keeps her ziptrak closed all the time, a few times I’ll see a small opening just above her gate. Does that mean she doesn’t open and leave from the PES? And it does look dark coz last time were only permitted to use brown. But last year they did the repainting to grey and white to the buildings, I’m not sure if they will allow grey or white ziptrak. All the ground floor units who did theirs are brown in colour.

I have plants. And I need plants 🪴 . We need plants for positive vibes lah! You know in fengshui you need a brighter looking space and house must have 🌬️ 通风。I don’t even think Grandmaster Tan would advise to cover up the PES also. I prefers to have light colours in the house to make the house look spacious 哪里可能会 make the house look dark and dull with an enclosed blinds but sometimes circumstances may make me change my mind. .  

So was thinking If I select a clear ziptrak can? I mean my purpose is to avoid having the stupid leaves in my home not for privacy. I hate to think but do we look like animals in a zoo? 😂 

Clear ziptrak also problematic, later dirt ji-tak ji tak so obvious, ah nia end up need to do extra work in cleaning and washing the blinds. Sigh….solve one problem but create another. 

If I install ziptrak 

With ziptrak installation I would definitely opt to do a wooden flooring outside. End up wasting so much money just to solve the stupid leaves problem. If I'm not wrong other neighbours have asked if it's possible to chop off that tree and plant something else but MA say cannot.  

With wooden flooring I also need to consider about the water feature there and change all the ceramic pots to something lighter. Will my plants survive in the first place? 

With wooden flooring, I can probably just vacumn (buy an extra vacumn roller attachment) and mop (use a different mop for outside). I don’t need to throw Dettol and forcefully scrub the floor. 

Fix awning / roof is another thing I need to do as there's an extended open area in my PES compared to the above balconies. Then I end up blocking my view when I want to stargaze. Can choose clear awning? But if litterbugs throw rubbish I’ll look up to pieces of tissue paper , cotton buds etc.. instead.  Another question is - who clears the rubbish left there? My upstairs neighbour or me?

Another solution I thought of

Is to get a leaves blower and just blow the leaves to one side and then sweep up. Very noisy leh!

I hope I can find a solution faster.

I hate our weather!

It’s only March and the weather is slowly warming up the mercury. There are days when it feels like 35 deg celcius, 40 deg celcius. When it gets uncomfortably hot, I have no mood to do any cleaning or anything else but to rest my tired old body in an air-conditioned room. Usually I like to ask if lil' one wants to turn on the aircon so I can hide out in the same room but she hates the air-con on in the day time. If the man is working from home, I'll hideout in the master bedroom. Today I see myself even perspiring with the fan on in the dining area. The flowers that I see infront of me only made me uncomfortably happy for a short time.  Should I bring the flowers into the room? Read below for more of my ranting over aircon and flowers 

My view (initially) while trying to plan itinerary and transferring some pictures into hard disk

Brought my laptop into the room and I have no bigger space for my laptop, my hard disks, USB cable to phone, mouse. Makes me wonder why did I throw that blue tray table away?! A silly thing hubby bought, it served its purpose on days when I had to bring laptop and scanner into lil’ one’s room while she’s having tuition outside and the man is occupying the study table in master room. Then …. I threw it away when realised he wasn’t using it I wasn’t using it. Everytime like that! When you need it you regret for disposing it away. When you have it, you hardly use it. 

Hubby was working in the room, picked up phonecall and overheard his phonecall when he asked his dunno-call-from-where colleague if it’s PH in his country then I started wondering …”why is he asking his colleague a weird question? what day is it today?” My goodness, it’s a public holiday today! Good Friday. How blur can I get? Anyway PH or not, it makes no difference to me. 

So why is he working on a PH? ok he's working hard to pay for my expenditures, my flowers,  my trips to flower dome, my sudden craving for food. I cannot complain. Please work harder my man, you need to pay for the bag I’ve set my eyes on.😜”

I read that in order to keep the fresh flowers last longer, we put them in cold room.  I get the point coz the flowers were in a huge chiller in FEF, but in SIN which is hot and I can’t turn on the aircon the whole day then how? It’s not like our house is on central aircon system. 

Not sure if those were mistakes but I used to over indulge my freshcut flowers. Tulips and other flowers I buy from Amsterdam, I used to put them in cold water with Panadol. Then I used to bring in the tulips and any flowers into the room in the night for pampering, the petals opened overnight and not sure if that made my flowers die faster coz i made the growth aka bloom spurt faster. I really need to read up on how to extend the life of my flowers. Anyway, for the last two tulips I bought, I left them on the dining table overnight. 

Laundry pods

Lil’ one is into the “clothes must smell like 🌸 ” craze. She doesn’t like the Downy fragrance I use. 

At the time before we finally saw the ones we were waiting for in Donki, I saw Breeze refill pack from NTUC and bought one to try. 

I did a search and there’s another brand but I can’t find this in NTUC and CS though it’s selling in the NTUC online shopping platform. 

I found it in KL though so bought one pack to try. I usually never like to have different packs of laundry pods opened at the same time but curiosity got hold of me and I needed to try. Lil’ one likes Fresh HY’s. Same goes for me. Now trying hard to finish the Breeze pods 😜.

So what exactly is this Sakura smell? I can’t smell anything from the real flowers. Coz even a close accidental touch of a petal or branch, you’ll hear someone screaming “no touching” let alone putting our nose close to smell it in Flower Dome. 

I will buy more next time and another yamazaki container to hold the Sakura pods 😅. I’m also using this and I love this smell. 

😝 ! Said I wanted to have less clutter in the house but I’m not practicing what I preach. 

 

Little happiness from florals

Flowers #2 for March 2024

Took a big leap of challenge by getting other flowers. First I had to walk to the tulips and admire them. I was really tempted to get tulips when I saw them there but since I’ve made up my mind to change to something different, I stuck to it. 

Not many flowers so Thursdays are not a good day to go down FEF. No peonies; no ranunculus; not many small flowery fillers. A few buckets of tulips also. 

Hydrangea : is my second time with this ball. My first was a disaster as the flower turned brown and flowers wilted in less than a day. Recently an article I chanced upon on reviving hydrangea convinced me to try this flower again. 

Once I selected what I wanted for my main flower, I had to choose the little accompaniments and honestly I have no idea what to choose. Walked round and round in the huge chiller, finally chose chamomile and alstroemeria. Dunno what kind of combination but then again I always never know what I’m doing with the beautiful flowers anyway 🤭.  

Been wanting to get the green fillers but it’s always such a huge bunch, I won’t have the use for the remaining 96%. 

This for record (accounting) purpose. Let’s see how far along this $38 of happiness can get me to

Some days when we're out, l'd ask che-che if she wants to drive. Sometimes she don't feel like it or wants to do something at backseat.

Some days, there'll be reasons she wants to drive apart from the time/s I want to eat something so l can't drive.

Her 2 reasons so far : -

1. "I'm soooooo bored. I want to drive."
2. "I dowan to hold the eggs, so I'll drive." 🤣
3. "ok! Ok I'll drive."

The day I went out without checking inside my wallet 😂.

Che-che wanted to eat here and when I went up with them to the stall. I was 😱 . I only hv about $19 left, tho it probably won't exceed that amt but I wasn't sure what lil' one wanted to eat (she had lunch in school so wasn't that hungry but said wanted something) + my own meal. If they exceed theirs means I have to either skip or order cheaper food.

We went up to check if they accepted Grab (nope!) n I whispered "work within the budget 🤣." (They have paynow. Che-che told me much later) I have $50 in the car, after I learnt my lesson (tagging Loh Moo Han you will know what it is abt) but I wasn't going to walk back in the heavy rain again.

2nd stop : Project Açai - accepts online payment

3rd stop : Kim Choo - They only accept Shopback n something else n cash. I don't have those 2 apps.

The girls were happily taking the prawn crackers and I had to remind them and asked them to calculate coz that's all I have - $50+. They were hesitant if they should take 2 keropok. Staff overheard our conversation n was smiling at us, the borlui people.

Che-che ordered her nonya chang and since still had spare $, ordered one more.

I came back home with only $9 left. Haha!

Reminder to self, always check how much I have in wallet before leaving the house.

This lil' joker was saying she wanted to order soup. So we thought she wanted noodle soup like her sister. Then she got all of us confused. I told her she can take her sister's soup what... we all laughed at her coz we thought she wanted to order food. J said she'll give her a bowl for free no need to pay. After that she came and said they put in some chicken for her. So nice right?Very sweet gesture, so thankful. J rejected my offer to pay them, i also feel paiseh coz they have a biz to run. I swear they didn't hear me whisper "work within the budget" or maybe they pity the skinny girl like she 没吃饭。

In actual fact she cited coz we've been their regulars so this small bowl is nothing at all.

This girl will always tell me "I haven't had uncle wanton for so long already."

I really wonder if less than a month is that long? I went in Feb here to tapao food then another time after that I went to Roxy. So it's definitely less than a month.

I thought we had no chance to pay our last respect, so went to the Tribute Ctr yesterday.

By God's grace, my deliveries all arrived early so I was able to leave the house early.

And..so coincident we bump into my bro n SIL on the walk there.

Footnote : Julia was someone I knew since Secondary school. Their school band came to KC to perform in 1991 or 1992. At that time, there wasn’t any email or WhatsApp so we kept in contact via snail mail. Initially I kept in contact with her and another girl, but Julia kept her mails coming in. 

I felt bad when I couldn’t make it for her wedding while I was in SQ. We had to apply leave many many months before. There was no such thing as taking annual leave with a short notice. Also I already had booked my leave and flights etc.. for my holiday was already booked. When she came to Singapore for her honeymoon, I was on vacation in Melbourne. Haha! Talk about star crossed lovers who never get to meet 🥰. I was rostered for a MEL flight months later and met up with her and her husband. They kindly picked me up from the hotel and brought me to their house in Geelong for the night. I remember it was winter coz they passed me a portable radiator to put in the room. I never got a chance to meet her after that but kept in contact via email and then later Facebook. I hope I’ll be able to meet up with her soon. Ashlee is such a big girl now.
