Cello #3

Che-che seems to be able to find more time practicing her cello now (and playing the piano too!). Perhaps coz all she does now is work, unlike years ago when she’s a student struggling with school + tuitions + piano, thus more pockets of time. Perhaps too coz she’s the one paying for her own cello lessons, she feels the pain if she doesn’t practice properly and progression is slow.

That eureka moment !
I was in the dining area when she was practicing in her room.
The scale and songs (especially for Lightly Row has so much more dynamics, feelings to it now). Definitely 10x so much better sounding now, no wrong angle causing funny squeaky sound. At one point I had to go into her room to pass her the laundered clothes I saw she had her eyes closed. She had a shock few seconds later as she probably sense a movement in the room “哎哟!吓死我!” So she’s been bowing with her eyes closed! This is a good method coz there’s no visual distractions relying just the auditory senses. Listening to herself, adjusting the bowing angle if she hears a slight squeak and getting the dynamics and correct emotions. Her bowing is stronger firmer sounded more confident now. And to hear it only after 4 lessons is amazing. I must 不要脸的夸自己的孩子. 🤨 She was still squeaking after more than 8 lessons playing the violin (因为不是她还钱🤣)

Was surprised when I heard her playing a short classical piece which I believe is not from the tutor coz she played it for the first time today. And it was not bad, no squeaks. When she had that eureka 开窍 moment, this song “You Did It” from My Fair Lady came into my mind. We all know that as long as someone has music background it’ll be easy to pick up any instruments. They just need to practice and improve on the technicalities. I’m just surprised that she was able to improve that fast.

Next mission
Maybe it’s time I pick and practice a piano cello duet piece and we can try to play together one day. Wishful thinking on my part? What happens if my old 玩不动 fingers and brain slow connection/thinking cause me a very s.l.o.w progression? May take months to play properly on the piano. Or I practice in secret first, then give her some time to practice while I continue practicing, after which we can come together and do the duet. Hmmm…💭…. Canon in D? Or my favourite Air on the G String? 😁
