For the past few weeks she was very busy meeting up with her friends.

For the final week, she left the time for family. What a week it was!

Eating and eating.

Just last night she exclaimed she wanted to eat the mee hoon kueh and Mie Sedap and took some packs to bring over. Walked to bomb shelter - remembers she has some snacks. Open the fridge - saw her snacks.

Opened up the teabags drawer and helped herself to some tea. The whole time she was like in a treasure hunt like that!! Goes to show we can have another CB, we won't starve 😂

This - is my going to be 21yr old daughter. Sometimes is still a baby at heart. When she was younger, she'll open the fridge and see her food and gasped "food".

Now? She opens the fridge and gasped "I forgot I have this" 🤦🏻‍♀️

She wanted to eat lots of things 😂. 

Dream BIG and enjoy the journey. First you need to endure the long journey.

Met the family for a meal, not the first kid in the extended family to study overseas but she's our first kid to do so 😂

Andrea is a toy daddy bought for her from SYD when she was a toddler, so maybe she's also quite attached to this toy.

She's such a sweet sister. Told lil' one "choose what you want since I won't be around for your birthday." Her mother's and father's bd she also not around, how come we have no presents 🤔😂?

Her last eczema jab before she flies. Wah....... Spent so much money each jab. She took x10 (or was it 12x jabs?). The initial jab she was required to admit into the hospital. Somebody got a single room in Mt E Novena.

Her life so far, she stayed in hospital twice. First time when she was born in Mt E (then there was only 1 Mt E.) and this is her second time.

Anyway, the money hubby spent on the jabs - we can get one Suites return ticket to her destination. Or can even get a small Birkin!

Very heavy things to bring over - 6.5kg!!

The cold may be too too cold so needs to take more care. Stocked up on the medication and the lotions

Then she asked for chai-poh. My first time doing this, k.

Then altho I did chk with mom how to do this, I still failed. Became caramelised chai-Poh. Che-che had a good laugh over my failure.

When I showed mom my failed chai-poh, she's so encouraging lor..... che-che had that chuckled look on her face. Oh well, my girl is so forgiving also coz she knows her mom is a hopeless cook

Tried it second time and she brought this over.

I can't believe I would do such thing lor..... no wonder mom always cook something for me when I go on long

flights. Now I understand 妈妈的心.

Only left with this small empty bottle at home so have to pack the rest into small bags

We tried to fulfil her wishes. On this day, we all woke up and left house at 7am (a rarity on a weekend) just to eat at Swee Choon.

All were so tired coz slept late the night before. I had 2hrs of sleep; the girls had 3hrs of sleep coz che-che bunked in with lil' one and they were talking.

After breakfast, we headed back home and went back to sleep after our shower 😂😂 真的是吃了就睡的猪妈女

I'm not joking when we actually went from one place to another just to satisfy her cravings.

Not forgetting the BBTs too! Muahaha! I told her she has one BBT near her. "I only like 九鲜's". That's good news, means she will COME BACK HOME! I must remind her about her kueh tutu, her potato corner, her waffles etc etc.. she's as gluttony as her mom.

Yup! Asked for mee hoon kueh "with a lot a lot of kueh" She wanted fried rice for next day's "breakfast and lunch and tonight's snack too!"

Since kitchen already dirty so I did the fried rice and put it in the rice cooker which we had to reach up the cabinet for it.

Kitchen is finally cleaned! And it's already 1am, I need to shower again. But kitchen look messy lah! So many gadgets outside

And then while we still have the fried rice the next day, she asked for mee hoon kueh AGAIN!!!!! Kitchen messy again.

Busy ah-Yi called and talked to her

Not forgetting - mama's hae bi which che- che likes. She had it since young. I left this to mom to cook coz l already destroyed the chai Poh.

Just some home cook food to make her feel ..... will she miss us??

Then we dropped by pasar malam and ate all sorts of food again. Fried ice-cream, fried Oreo, lekor, chicken skin.

Was suppose to eat mee hoon kueh but coz had junk food she's so full. I can't even rmbr what she ate that night after that? Instant noodles or was it ramen or ??

I'm confused 🫤 

She's going with 1 bag and that's it. But tompang some items in daddy's bag.

Pink bag - food items. Told her in any case need to declare just open up to show, it's all in there I dowan to put in different luggages. Can die if need to dig this and that, open the vacumn sealed bags.

It's her snacks!! Made in Japan.

Actual fact, she's opening a Japanese mart there lah!

She couldn't finish what she bought in July so decided to bring them over.

She even packed her ramen. Still have some more at home, she's not getting married there so will be back.

Hubby n I looked at each other.

Yst afternoon, she wanted to go Taka. So had her tummy filled fr food to açai. Scary right?!

Told her I'll cook for her in the next morning (today). And so l woke up to cook for her. Sigh.... I can't believe this lazy mom actually DID THIS FOR HER DAUGHTER.

Kindda rushing. Coz I also needed to send lil' one to school.

Nice of her friends to come over to send her off. I mean…..it's a weekday and they have school so I wasn't expecting anyone to come by but they did.

She's been so so busy for weeks meeting friends from sec, JC, uni.

Mama wanted to send off her first grandchild

A tired me coz has to cook her mee hoon kueh in the morning. And last evening was spent checking the list.

Lil' one's parting present - a smack from daddy.

Just coz she told daddy ystd "anyway we're sending che-che off, not you. You're coming back so we send che-che off." Haha!

Last evening when I told them duagu is coming over. Lil' one asked why, so I told her "anyway he's not coming to see you. He's coming to see che-che. 🤣 #revenge#

Came home to see this left behind and reality sinks in.

I need to do all the housework. House is a mess coz I only vacuumed n mopped the house on Wed, left other housework aside. I wanted to spend as much time with che-che that's why brought her out Thu - deal with double mess

Beginning to miss her. I shall do housework and keep myself busy.

The day is drawing closer and closer, even if I wanted to laze more and procrastinate I NEED TO GET MY WORK DONE. 

INSURANCE

OMG! How can I forget? The most important thing one should never leave without when travelling - Insurance! Was running through in my mind what needed to be done and I suddenly remembered. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Finally purchased a student insurance from Income on 5th Aug. Valid till mid June 2024. Not cheap man! Cost me S$905.27. I love it how insurance can be purchased online and policy documents sent via email. Not that I will read them at all 🤭 anyway and I hope there’s no use for it. 

CREDIT CARD

At the same time, just remembered and decided to apply a supplementary credit card for her on 2nd Aug (or was it 3rd?). Only to be used in emergency. Well, I can trust this girl not to anyhow sign my card. I can’t say the same thing about lil’ one, to her everything is emergency. But having a credit card might be an assurance should her other cards fail to work.

E-MFA REGISTRATION

Wanted to register e-mfa but website on maintenance. Duh! Put in a reminder in my phone to do it by next week. We still have XX days before she leaves. 😢

PACKING

Been telling that girl to quickly list down what she wants to pack but she’s not doing anything. 

Been telling that girl to take out all the summer clothes and undergarments etc..for me to pack now but she’s busy watching her なにわ男子. Aiyoh girl ah…. Can you please prioritise what you need to do or not? If she make me repeat one more time she can jolly well pack everything on her own!! 

I was even more efficient in bringing out her winter apparels. Even brought her to ColdWear to get 2 more sweaters on Wed (2nd Aug) coz she only has 2 at home. 

This is also the time to use vacumn packing bag, let’s hope the cheena ones are ok if not I’ll have to use the better quality (imho) - Packmate. 

Somehow I’m glad lil’ one couldn’t go back KC next Fri (11th) to visit the teachers as at last minute her teacher scheduled a practical test. If not, I’d go crazy trying to clear the mess lil’ one left behind after baking AND packing the cookies for her. She will go back at a later date, which by then I don’t have to dwell upon che-che’s overseas studies stuffs. Not related to the important stuffs but I'm like the bao-gah-liao person and I'm not good in multi-tasking to such extent lor...

DENTIST

She’ll definitely miss the routine checks so brought her to the dentist just opposite our house on 30th July. I’d just switch us all over there for convenience. Normally we go every 6mths so fixed the next appointment in Jan for the 3 of us, she should be back in SIN for her term break then.

HAIR CUT

Appointment made for 7th Aug. She won’t need to do anything while she’s there unless she decides to colour or perm her hair 😛 

SPARE SPECS 

This is another suddenly remember item. I think I should stand her infront of me and 从头到脚 think what other things I need to prepare. Lucky that one can collect their specs in 20mins in Owndays. It was a spare one so didn’t need transition lens. We had it done on 6th Aug at PLQ. 

CONTACT LENS

She told me last minute she miscalculated and thought she had some contact lens leftover but she can't seem to find them. 

Brought her down to Lens Men on 10th after my Fight-Do. They heard of the urgency and tried to quickly reserve some boxes for us. Received a message the next day late afternoon that it is ready for collection. Woah! kumsia kumsia. 

We went back to PLQ on the 12th as hubby needs to collect his glasses at Owndays. Asked him if he can drop me at Lens Men to do the collection after dinner. Used all the CDC vouchers to pay for her $354 contact lens. 

PACKING

Was done in a span of a few days while the house was looking messy like this. 🤣 such an eyesore 

mess while packing. I do get frustrated when I'm the busy one and one by one everyone come to me about something. Just the other day, lil' one was complaining about her spoilt laptop keys etc.. 

This is not a holiday, it's an extended stay. Although one will laugh at the amount of items I packed for her. 

I spent time packing; repacking; moving some items here and there until I got confused. Aiyah! as long as it's in her bag just find it herself. I packed from her luggage bag (24") to the bigger blue cloth luggage bag (32") and then finally to a new luggage bag (32") which I bought on the 11th after Dr Chu's (skin doctor) appointment. 

Threw away the cloth luggage bag which is almost the same size - 82cm (32 inches) - as both the wheels and handle are a little spoilt. This luggage will be our replacement for the ladies to pack our items when we go on a long and perhaps wintery family holiday.   

Hubby borrowed her 24" luggage bag as his luggage is smaller and we needed tompang his extra space. My luggage weighing scale 好不坏这个时间坏 so I can't weigh the bag. I was trying my best to lighten as much as I can but ..... she's already travelling with the minimum. 

For personal effects I packed :

1) 10 sets of outside clothes

2) 3 sets of room clothes [will discard 2]

3) 10 panties [will discard 5]

4) 8 bras

5) 10 socks

6) 4 sweaters

7) 3 pants [will discard 2] 

8) 1 thick coat

9) Cinamoroll hoodie

10) 2 set thermal

11) 3 thick socks

12) gloves, 2 winter hats

13) one extra sneakers

14) 1 bathroom slippers, 1 fluffy bedroom slippers [will discard all]

15) snow grip for shoes. Oh shit! I forgot to pack the ice grip attachment. 

FA kit, all the misc. items. Some items I told her she can throw it away before she returns home. 

Luggage is heavy. Her prescribed skin toiletries weigh a hefty 6.5kg, which I transferred to hubby's bag. Didn't pack her Aveda shampoo and conditioner as she didn't want to.   

 

PACKING WAS SUCH A HASSLE, THO I MAY BE AN EXPERIENCED PACKER. (will blog about this another day) 

Friends asked me if I roll my clothes. Sometimes I do, it really depends. If rolling my jeans will take up more space then laying it flat, then I'll lay it flat. Rolling up clothes is more appropriate when packing light-weight clothes.

I love to use packing cubes. Before packing cubes, it was Naraya's garment bag. Packing cubes helps me keep my items segregated and organised. It'll be nice to open up to a luggage bag with everything all neatly packed. However I must it is never easy to use packing cubes when I'm packing winter clothings for the females. Roll up vacumn seal bags is a must have. I used a vacumn seal this time, so it means she'll have to borrow a vacumn cleaner from somewhere to pack her things in for her return. *wink*

I came across this compressed packing cube which is really interesting. I changed the packing cubes to  this instead. Sigh.... unpack and repack all over again.    

I managed to pack the vacumn sealed thick fluffy blanket, vacumn sealed 2 bath towels into one bag and compress it even further. Good luck to her when she's packing her items bound for home 🤭.

I left some items for her in hubby's bag as well.

 In it, is a packing cube with the clothes, undergarments and socks she needs for the next 3 days, disposable bedroom slippers and plastic bag. There's no need for her to open her huge luggage bag at all >>

as I've also put whatever she needs in hubby's toiletries bag.

this will make it easier for them as they don't have to unpack and then repack anything. Sometimes I'm amazed that I'm so smart. 😉 

Challenges faced : 

One of the challenges I faced while packing her clothes was that che-che has little clothes. Or should I say little favourite clothes 😉. I can iron her clothes and then next week I’m ironing the same one again. She was still wearing them to go out with friends, yet I needed to pack them in. She’s more of a T-shirt and shorts person. Look at the number of clothes she’s bringing over and ONLY that luggage, she is unlike her primary schoolmate who probably packed in 2 large luggages over. That schoolmate is practically like doing a fashion show like that!! 

I didn't even think of a few items, especially organizers, until recently. She's not as fussy as me (I guess) or as crazy as me to colour match every thing in the room. I am excited and daydreamed .... if I were in her shoes how I would organize my room - another post of this on another day.   

Laundry basket collapsible S$6.69. I'm paying 3x the price, if only I had thought of this months ago I would be able to cart this out from Taobao   

3 layers hang organizer for wardrobe as I have no idea how her wardrobe looks like. Is 3 layers sufficient?

Blog entry drafted on 16th Aug

In one of the last few days of outings with my big precious baby. (she left the last week for the family).

On 16th (Wed), the eve of departure, I suddenly remembered SIM card. Argh! Thankfully I was able to get one from shoppee within 24hrs, I made that within 4hrs. 

Paid : S$26.50 for T-Mobile 7 days 5G/4G Unlimited Data + Call. 

Made the payment at 12+pm and did the pick up at 3+pm. Was chided by mini-mother aka che-che why leave to last minute? Wah.... she thinks I'm like her - got time to sit down and keep listening to music and play games? There are 1001 things running through my mind wondering if I left anything out. 

So really I'm so thankful that I can pick up the card in the HQ or at selected ESSOs. This is not the first time I got a SIM card from them, the previous time I had many days in advance to prep but also did the pick-up for lil' one's Taiwan SIM card and had the cards sent to me for Japan's SIM cards.   

One can get SIM cards at the airport upon arrival but knowing hubby will rush her through she wouldn’t have the chance to get the card. And his thrifty nature will not let her have it and simply rely on mall’s wifi. Might as well get it for her for 7 days, which is already too long as I expect hubby to settle her new card in less than a week. 

Anyway after the Taiwan purchase, I think I’m a convert and will stick to this forever until I figure out what the heck is e-SIM. 

INSURANCE

Oh yes! I know I purchased her student insurance on the 5th.

However I read that it's good to have College Renters Insurance plan as well for US unis. So I purchased one on the 12th that is designed for students. This gives them assurance over fire burning their accomodation to flooding. If snow piled up and she can't open her door, can claim? 🤣

Maybe I'm just too safety conscious lah! Of course I hope nothing happens.   

MISC

The things I forgot again or maybe it's 多以, I printed two small cards for her to put in her wallet. It's something that I'd bring along with me whenever I go for a run/walk. (Ah-nia scared I faint and need help mah...) The card states her name, blood group, allergy, nationality and all the contact numbers which includes the dean, embassy, our contact number.

At the same time consolidated all the important numbers for her in one sheet of paper, checked the shuttle buses timing to the supermarkets and to Student Health Services etc.. Had them printed and laminated for her to put it on her table for easy reference.   

 

Che-che when in Tampines

Can't remember what started the conversation about painting and wallpapers, I casually mentioned at one point of time it was the hype. Many households would opt for wallpaper instead of painting. We had wallpaper on the living room walls and even ceiling in Tampines home. 

Che-che remember the wallpaper, could even describe the print coz she said she rmbr laying on sofa and sticking her feet on the wall (L-shape). She was rebelling "我不要去学校“ and kicking the wall same time so she felt the texture was different.  🤣 I know this more than 15 years late. She can't remember how old she was so I'm not able to put the date to the blog. She was in K1 in 2007, she could be in kindergarten or nursery. 

That reminds too she ever kicked the master bedroom wardrobe door (coz she sleeps on the mattress on the floor between the wardrobe and one bed) probably to rebel over something. Must have kicked it over a period of time and one day the door almost fell on her. Sigh..... the destroyer lucky was not injured.

Bought lunch n dinner home. Missing some 🌶️ sour spicy soup, drink first worry later about the stomach pain. I need my Tom yum! I forgot I still have my own not so spicy น้ำพริกเผา , the cooking process that left my kitchen in a mess. 🤣

Now getting sick of the lemongrass chicken from SoPho also, I think the Thai version one I cook is nicer. 😂Guess I know what to cook for self this week.

When the big girl needs to pick up her shoes, the lil' one followed COZ "I never go out at all!!"

So silly lor.... even if we kept the social group to 2, I still need to go forward to pay $$ right?      

Been bugging us for fairy lights, LED lights what nots that she saw in Tiktok, as if I 

know what she meant. 

Anyway, she saw this and wanted this. 

Che-che took the most credit for helping to set the lights up for her.

Lil' one woke up at 12+am n walked into my room, asked me "mummy, do I sleep or tidy my things?" She asked me twice coz I didn't understand her.

Then I rmbred asking her to keep her things coz she left her ballet n tuition bag outside the dining area.

Thing is, she plonked to bed at 10.20pm after keeping her bags.

Let's see if she remembers having this conversation with me.

It has happened before. She woke up n asked me "do I do my homework now or sleep?" to my amusement.

She had no idea she had walked n talked to me when lasked her.

Oh yah, did I mention that when she was little. She did sit up and start talking??

Which is more scary? Sleepwalking or sleeptalking?

This afternoon, a caucasian lady with 3 kids (one baby approx 8-11mths) sat about 2 tables away from me. Her baby's cries attracted my attention and I was observing what was happening.

Immediately, I am reminded of my nottie girl when she was that young too.

That baby, like nottie girl, cries when food and drinks is passed around her from left to right to left to right.

Hand stretching out trying to catch hold of it. Then when she's given a bite or a sip, she kept quiet. If take away the food/drink, she'll cry within 3 seconds.

The cycle continues.

Oh man! How did I manage to tolerate my nottie girl?

Helped my lil' one's class for their trip to SAM. This is what she did today. Not bad for someone who declares "I dun like art."

This happens just like it was yesterday. 😂. The time I was seated with a few kids and helping them if they need help. And this is something I always tell my girls when I do PV in school “I’m here to help you and your friends. I’m not helping you alone. So don’t come calling me mummy here mummy there.” 

My super talkative girl just talk to the staff and blurted out “I hate art”. Wah….I had that slap head moment. It’s really hilarious and embarrassing lor! My girl dunno how to angkat people.

Haiz! Doing my most feared subject - Maths!! I was going to kill her today, let's see how she fared for Nanyang Pri paper.

So I do finally realise why she always has problem doing Math. She’s ok with rote-learning but if it’s long essay problem sums, she gets ‘shut off’ with too much reading thus no comprehension. Which has to do with her eyes. 

I’m not sure if she still checks her work / exams haphazardly.

Everytime after eating at uncle wanton, I must cross the bridge towards Kim Choo. 

Dropped by Kimchoo to get my dumpling (the bestest nonya chang after my mom's). Saw that ondeh and kueh kosui selling at total price of $4.40, a fraction of what one will pay at ahem..ahem.., so why not pick them up as well? Kimchoo's kuehs are equally nice + I'm adding more weight to myself and adding more pennies in my pocket. No reason for me to not buy them. Anyway, this could be the only time I'll indulge in these.

Now that l've stopped keto temp, it's one of my must indulge. And had it like 4x already 😂 in a short span of 2mths? The last time was only last wk? 🤭

Lil’ one’s Term 3 late dismissals

Term 3 started in 3rd July with a horrible schedule. Late dismissals at 5pm four times a week, resulting in her having to start her revision late until 12am - 1am. Why revision started late? Coz as usual after reaching home at 5.25 (latest) she will take her own sweet time to eat her dinner for 1hr plus after her long shower (20-30mins). She’ll start her revision at 8pm!!! 

When Term 3 started on 3rd July I was barely with her when left for a holiday. Only had one week (17th to 21st July) with her before she had another one week break. When school started on 31st July, most days she had her dinner at home. Today, 3rd Aug, as I went back home after my Fight-Do class to do some housework I decided to cook some porridge for her and do a trial run.

No more Hello Kitty tray-table in the car now 🤣 which I had 2 for each girls and they would eat in the car during the journey from school to home in their younger days. Of course that came with another set of problem - feeding another family (the cockroaches)

Turns out she did save some time eating at home and she was able to start her revision slightly earlier. 

Well, I might have to resort back to this lifestyle I guess if it helps to save some time. Better than her sitting in the 15-18mins journey doing nothing. 

Raindrop Cake 水信玄餅

Raindrop cake or mizu shingen mochi was introduced in 2014 altho it goes back to way back. Read this

I can’t remember when or where I first saw it and had it. I believe it was the kinako powder that made me notice this and liked it. I also liked warabi mochi, think it’s has that 像花生 taste. 

Anyway, I was so happy when this was presented to us at the restaurant Mio 未央 brought us to in Dec 22. I was expecting the normal matcha shiratama dango dessert, it’s like I even forgot its existence. 

Che-che decided to try it and liked it, she took lil’ one’s share.

When I saw the dessert, I even commented I’ve been wanting to make this for years but never did 😂. Seven months down the road at shin-Osaka station (taking train to Himeji) che-che chanced upon this. Was surprised that the expiry date is months later, not that it will be kept that long anyway. And isn’t it supposed to be served chilled? 

Well… she declined the offer to buy more at the station. She was trying not to finish them so fast. She was left with this last one. She didn’t get to eat this coz hubby ate it 🤣.  

So I think it’s time I should make this before she flies over for studies. Kindda procrastinated for a few days already and decided I better do it now - on 31st July. 

So many recipes but dunno which one to use. Why did I have to choose a weird portion recipe? 1 cup to 1.5tbsp of agar powder. That’s a lot of powder for so little water. 

I don’t even need to refrigerate the jelly, it hardened in less than 10mins 🤣

1st Aug

Tried the smaller ones, quite tasteless. The recipe called for 1g but I think I can increase to 2-3g for a start. 

2nd Aug

Left with 4 big ones, served 1 to che-che who feedback it’s not sweet and rather soft. Huh? Well maybe I can try to decrease very little water? Maybe 10-20ml? Will it be too hard then?
