Saw this new kid on the block in Centrepoint -Torori Tenshi No Warabi-mochi - and decided to try it. This warabi mochi is from Osaka. Let’s see if we’ll come across this shop in Osaka.
The guy brought out a box of prepared bracken starch from storage, brought out one strip and started cutting it and then mixing with the kinako powder, macam like doing muahchee like that 😂. They sell it in a box of 6 at $7.80 or 12 at $14.80. As I was looking through the transparent panel watching how it was prepared, I think he was abit paiseh that he cut that long strip into 7 pieces and he gave me all 7 pieces. I doubt that long strip was meant for 6 pieces as I saw a few pieces of leftover in the kinako powder tray, possibly one piece from every strip. If another customer comes by, the staff can simply pick up all the leftover pieces to make a box of 6 🤣.
Conclusion : Don’t like it. Still prefers Warabimochi Kamakura
Torori’s drink is nothing to rave about, I feel it’s subpar. Torori’s warabimochi (as shown in top right and bottom left pic) is darker in colour and it’s slightly harder than Kamakura’s. They are less generous with their kinako powder, which honestly I didn’t mind coz I tend to sweep the excessive powder away in Kamakura’s. Too much powder can cause a choking hazard. Since it’s lesser kinako powder, opening the box is cleaner on the table.
