Routine

I need to do a routine for both gals, a routine that has smooth transition from bringing Athena to school and back, a routine that allows me to spend time with them (and not myself).

It was easy to do a routine for one child, and I managed well with household chores and Athena all by myself. She had her VCD time, then her reading time, then her flashcards, then her Music & Movements. I hope to do that with Aricia, I think I can while the older girl is in school.

I think I better work our the routine fast, I've been pushing back on Athena's daily grinding from me. Her assesment books are about to turn mouldy.
Mom says I'm crazy to use GD on Aricia at this age when she can hardly look up for long. I tried the stimulating VCDs on her and she looked at the screen; then looked away not paying attention to it.

As observed

Was in Tanglin Mall and this is what I've observed :

Mainly angmohs were pushing Peg Peregos; Quinnys while asians - Japanese were pushing the light-weighted ones. Couldn't locate the name of the strollers. Didn't look familiar, so they could have brought it from home.

Angmohs were seen carrying their little newborns in their CabrioFixs, and they are all the same colour! I must admit I used to like this also, but the stingy me wanted something that can lasts me for a long long time.

California Fitness here I come...

Think I will go back gyming next week or the following : (will see how the relactation works out)

Highlighted the classes which I'm interested to go back to, and will have to work out which day/ time to exercise the flabs out. No more chocolates! No more carbos!

Easels checked out

Managed to email the US company on this easel which I've set my eyes on, and oh my...... it costs close to S$300. Even if I dote on my children, spending $300 on an easel is a no-no. But I must admit this is a really nice & unique easel to have. The only disadvantage is that I can't fold it up should I need to stow away (knowing myself... I hate to have things cluttering the house)

I dunno why but I have this liking for easels that are made of wood, coz' it doesn't look as bulky as those plastic-y ones. Although this easel allows me to have a roll of paper & draw, however this No.2 choice does not have space for me to put the painting supplies.

Last choice, this plastic-y which means it's bulky; but has the space to put sufficient painting supplies. Doesn't have the paper in a roll, which may be good also coz' somehow I need to cut the paper even if its in a roll right?
I kindda of wanna settle for this choice - but in pink....

Until my ingrate daughter does something (see previous blog) which makes me wonder if its worth the money buying for her. Perhaps I should just buy the $39 easel from Ikea. Don't bloody care about the extra space I need coz' I may not want to buy her the painting supplies.

Ingrate daughter

I dunno where and how to begin this..

I've got an ingrate daughter, one who doesn't appreciate or think about her parents. I have only left her at mom's place on Monday night, which was yesterday and she didn't even want to speak to us on the phone yesterday & today.
In other words, to sum up how I feel is "hurting to my feelings", yes I should be happy and lucky that my daughter can stay in my mom's place besides my home. I should be thankful that my mom and family are willing to take over for the one day to help me take care of Athena while I do a sanity check and rest more/ concentrate on the little mousey girl. I should be thankful that my daughter don't mind & can stay over in mom's place other than our place (which can serve as a backup place should we need to go on a trip without her)
Could it be due to my hormonal changes again - going through some kind of depression/ rejection etc.. ? Why did I get so frustrated all of a sudden?

There are occasions when I leave her at my mom's place, she wouldn't want to talk to me at all. There are days when she'll talk to me very excitedly & end the phonecall with a "goodnight mummy, I love you mummy."
For the past 2 occasions, she didn't want to speak to me and didn't even want to speak to hubby. What's the meaning of this? Although she aint close to the dad coz' she spends more time with me; dad out bringing bacon home but it's her dad leh!
To think that hubby always asks me "why let her stay in Tampines? bring her back everyday, don't care if she cries." (To me, I don't mind letting her stay once in a while coz' she won't have the chance to stay there once she starts Primary school. But to have one who totally forgets her own mother & father is unspeakable. Also, sometimes she cries way too disturbing that I can't concentrate in my driving) Today he told me "heck lah, she dowan to come back home, we dowan her lah. Ungrateful girl; throw her away, we pamper on this little one." Now I know what mom means when she casually mentioned that it's really heartbreaking if one day your child turned against you or totally ignored you despite the effort you put in to raise him/her up for the past 20 years. Although my incident is a very small matter but it is enough to break my heart, let alone something of a bigger scale. I think I will jump off the building man!

Anyway, to sum it up. I was rather angry with her. She then called again to say she wants to speak to me but then ended up holding onto the phone without an utter; then another time apologized to me (of course with the urging from my family). Both times I couldn't be bothered to talk to her and simply hung up the phone on her. I've never felt so hurt with her, although I know everyone will tell me.. "come on, she's only a child." But somehow deep inside me..... I feel ..... she doesn't have a place in her heart for her mummy/daddy? It's always her dua-gu, dua-kim and ma-ma. Would you consider it to be jealousy from me? Have I gone overboard with my reaction?

Feelings : Very sad

Relactate

Monday
After I dropped Athena in school, I stayed in mom's place for a few hours. There, Aricia needed to be fed twice. I didn't use the SNS but kindda latch her on me first; she latched and then got lazy (her suckle is not strong). After which I gave her her formula in a bottle.

2.30pm - appointment with Uma
Aricia was not ready to drink so I walked around Tanglin Mall until her next feed. Did tell Uma my menses came back yesterday so there could be hormonal changes and maybe longer for milk to come in. Then she dropped the bomb " when your menses come, your milk supply dips further." So much for my effort in trying to relactate her this week.
Feelings : sad

3.40pm : As observed, Aricia was crying damn loud when tried to latch her with the SNS that she probably startled some babies in another room, where a group of expatriates mothers met & chatted with one another + their little chubby kiddos. - very cute! (ai yoh.. I put Aricia & them side by side, she's way too small size liao)
She hates it with the SNS. Explained that she latches on properly without the tube (she knows there's some thing there), so Uma suggested latching her and then slot the tube. She sucked but not strong enough so she's not drinking. And it seems easy for Uma to slot it in for me, but it might be difficult for me to slot it in with one hand.
Uma saw Aricia crying so badly, even without her suggestion I stopped feeding and pacified her, then Uma bottle-fed her. Told me to ask helper with the bottle feeding; so that Aricia will only associate the breasts and me. How about syringing in? She said too tedious, no need.
Advice :
1) latch her on, slot tube in later
2) if she keeps crying... never mind, give her bottle first then go on SNS. Most importantly is the child must have the feed. Satisfy her, then put her on SNS
3) put her to breasts at every feed, even if it means just stimulating it (but must be efficient suckling) And pumping after her feed. Okay I must figure how if I can cope with feeding on breasts/ or SNS, then if cannot continue with bottle, then pump. Then less than an hour later the cycle begins again.

5.30pm
Tried what Uma suggested, latch and slot tube. Goash! She kindda closed in on her latching so it's wrong already and can't slot in. Tried again she 'complained', tried again she opened her mouth wanting to cry; I quickly slot in tube. Even before I could tape it down with one hand , in her frantic cries she tugged on the tube and it came off. Shit! Milk dripped on bedsheet. Stopped flow.. then she refuses to suckle on me.
Damn stupid but had to pour back again the remaining untouched amount back to the bottle to bottle feed her.
Pumped or should I say manually squeezed that little milk I have.

7.40pm
Thank goodness I finished my dinner, she woke up early and cried in hunger. Ok... lesson learnt :don't pour the whole amount of milk into SNS. So this time I thought since she didn't drink, I'll put in 20ml for her.
And you know what?!?! She was drinking!!! She cried when it finished and pouted her lips at me. I had to put her down on bed to refill the rest of the milk in, she cried and then refused to drink from me. Her milk in bottle has turned cold, didn't want to wait further (for me to warm it up again) so no choice gave her the milk. Pray hard she don't get 'wind' in her stomach.

9+pm
Had the SNS slinged around me, but I kindda pitied her so simply put her on me and she was suckling (dunno what... not much milk left) hard. You see lah! Now when she's suckling hard, I put her on SNS and she gets interrupted & angry that she refuses. I tell you my girl has got a personality man! Oh boy! Another failure.

Tuesday
The mother was so tired that she didn't even hear her crying for milk in the morning. Suppose to offer her but was deep in sleep....

10.25am / 1.05pm / 3.15pm / 4.55pm / 7.35pm / 9+pm
She was on SNS but didn't suckle hard. I cheated, I jumpstart the flow for her by squeezing the bottle for her. Then the amount is still there. Despite trying (and almost dozing off myself) for the next 15 minutes, the amount in SNS remains the same. Twice her hand got entangled in the tube, once she pulled out the tube and milk dripped (again!) on bedsheet. All the struggling was no use.
Then decided to feed her from bottle. But she wasn't crying so I warmed up the milk in a cup while I continued to let her 'suckle for fun' on me. Fed her, she was very happy after that.
Pumped : still that small amount. Must remember milk supply dropped due to menses and this is only Day 2 so ....still early.
But I was really tired today coz' her feed is every 2hours and by the time I finish one cycle, I have only less than an hour to the next feed. Then thought she can gimme a break, she wanted me to carry her. Once I wanted to keep her quiet, I let her suckle for fun while I lie down on bed. The mother ended up dozing off for less than 10 minutes until the little one 'complained '

Is it a waste of time? Now I see the main problem, it's her latching. And I guess I have to agree with Uma that once a child gets older, it's difficult to train her back. If breastfeeding her 100% is too ambitious on my part (since I am quite committed to the older girl's activities), even if it means I gotta supplement 50% or more, I don't mind. I just want to give her a little more milk than what she's getting from me now.
Hope it's a better start tomorrow. And should I carry out my threats on Athena "no more staying in Tampines"?? And let her stay there for the intended week ? Or should I go back to my normal routine but do it in a relaxed and optimistic way now? - suck when she wants; don't get too stressed up. But then again, it's like I'm giving up when I've hardly done anything.

Mom's 60th birthday

Mom turned 60 today. The children as usual will celebrate it for her, this year (like last year) ended up with brother, Pauline and us. Sister didn't joined us for 2 years consecutively coz' she had to do last minute work before she flies off to HK for the Trade Fairs.

We had our celebration this year at Paramount Hotel, had the Ala-carte buffet. Food is good, what can you expect from Tung Lok.
Yeeks! fat arm!!! Can photoshop this or not?

We ordered two 寿桃- longevity buns for her, which was presented to her when we were ready to tuck into the birthday cake. Chinese uses this 寿桃 and noodles which symbolizes longevity during birthdays.

We happily tucked in the birthday cake, eating and chatting a little when Aricia made small noise and shuffled in her stroller... and then I realised "we forgot to include her in the photos!" Haha! This kind of marder also have!!

Athena as usual will make a mess of herself; putting her face to the cake. Whenever we tease her about it; the more she'll try to make us laugh at her.

Can't forget her the second time, can we? Aricia having her first taste of a cake

Managed to snap some photos of Aricia, check her blog

The miracles of life

From a tiny speck to a life with a heartbeat. The excited heartbeats came from all who loved her as we waited patiently for her birth.

At first sight, we cried "oh... such a miracle and we thank God for her." It's simply amazing. We couldn't visualise how small her feet and hands were; that picking her up was heart-stopping.

As each day passed, her hands and grew bigger by the day that is oblivious to us. She suddenly held on to us all the time, knowing that we are always there for her. She held on our shirt when we carry her; she held the bottle and now she's back holding our hands again.
My child, we will always be here for you. We will always hold your hands and never let you fall.

Aricia

Looking at herself
Aricia is fascinated when she looks at herself in the mirror. Normally after her shower in the daytime, I let her see herself in our large mirror in the bathroom. Today, I took a mirror when she was on the bed and when she saw herself, she was smiling and after some time started "talking."
PS. Sorry for the funny angle of the camera coz' I had to lie down on the bed with her.

How she drinks her milk
Aricia has this funny habit when she's drinking milk, thus prolonging her milk feed. As it is, every 2 hours or sometimes 1 1/2 hrs interval is enough to tire me out, she has to drink slowly..
She suckles; talk; suckles; talk; suckles; push the teat out & suck it back ; did it a few times; talk ; like chewing the teat; talk.

Missed again!

Sister is going to HK in another 3 days time and I guess I missed it again for the second time round. Sigh... Nope, she's not going for a holiday but for trade fairs.
I wish I can go to see and hopefully build up contacts but ... what can a marder of 2 do? Except to change diapers;feed milk. Such life!

Tale of the 2 Cockroaches

About 2 months back, Athena fell asleep on her mattress in our room (when we were co-sleeping) as we were watching TV on a lazy weekend night. We didn't notice it until hubby was about to cover her with her blankie "ah yoh, you come and see this kingkong baby.. sleep until like that. Girl leh... open her leg so big like a cockroach like that!" He closed up her legs only to have her opening up her legs again. We chuckled at the sight.

The big cockroach has been residing in our house since. We gave up closing up her legs for her...............until we saw that Aricia is beginning to pick up the same sleeping habits from her sister (she also turns in her bed; kicks of blanket) by opening her legs big. It only didn't look unsightly coz' she had her PJs on while Athena sleeps with her T-shirt & short or panties only.[cooling weather so no aircon for them]

This is a simple illustration drawn by me:

The Japanese food craze / In Paragon

Remember I mentioned a few days ago how suddenly I am so inspired to cook Japanese food and make sushi? Well........... since I was in Paragon I dropped by Market Place to buy some stuffs for my "culinary feast"
I happily helped myself to daikon, sakura denbu, soba and was wondering how they make the soup for their soba. (yup! Athena likes soba). Then I remembered her kakiage and bought the marinade and the flour. The rice came in big and small pack but the vinegar came in a big bottle..so didn't get the vinegar. I saw cute furikake seasoning that also comes in Hello Kitty and KeroKeroppi packaging. It surely not only tempted the children but me also!
And how can I ever forget my bloody expensive Yakisoba instant noodles -$8.80 for a pack of 5 - crazy huh? And cannot forget my jellies!! There you see.. I went shopping for Japanese food, all ready to cook instant stuffs. Haha! So much about me talking want to cook for Athena.

Couldn't take anymore space so had to put back some jellies, coz' I had bought some food stuffs from Marks & Spencer which is heavy enough.
Today's trip was mainly all the foodie stuffs for a junkie like me. I wanted to look for a nice dress for Athena. I did, but they didn't have her kingkong size. Then I saw a pair of similiar dress from Dune for Athena & Aricia. It's pink dress with a white ribbon around the waist - very sweet. But the size for Athena is either too small or too large, I may need her to try on the dress herself.
And yes! I had to eat at Spageddies before I leave the place even though I already had my lunch. *burp*

Thou Shall Not Lie

When I die and stand infront of God.. I'll be bombarded with this question : "Why did you have to lie so many times?"
a) "Because you never eat vegetables, that's why the mosquitoes bite you."
b) "You must eat more vegetables, then you can grow taller faster."
c) "Because that che-che touch her koko-pok (her private part)/ backside and never wash her hands before she had her meal, that's why she vomitted."
d) "Because you don't eat so many things, then mei-mei will grow bigger than you and beat you."
.
.
.
And many 'becauses' from the liar mummy.

Me, my breasts & my Mom

Yah, just in case you might think this is going to be a RA entry, do not worry.

IGNORANCE NO. 1
Mom saw me eating ice-cream today and then as usual (trying to tell me not to eat cold things) told me "maybe eating cold things cut down your milk supply?" Huh? she's like practically finding 'cold stuffs' as an excuse to anything. Told her I had pain in my back, she said it's because I eat something cold. ??!!!

IGNORANCE NO. 2
Ai yoh! I can't believe my mom when she said this about the decrease in milk supply due to consuming cold food. And she has even made this remark "our family, all the ladies got no milk one.." Did explained that it's not that, everyone has sufficient milk for their child. And it's Demand = Supply. If not, can she explain to me how my milk came in so fast in the hospital ? That even the LC was surprised that amongst the lots of fat ladies attending the Breastfeeding class the smallest sized me got milk going fast & first. Oh man! And to think I stopped it. Sometimes if I can turn back the clock, I would have persisted and probably now donating excess milk to the Milk Bank.

IGNORANCE NO. 3
First time I breastfeed Aricia in hospital, mom passed Aricia to me and then she stood there (not that I mind) and worst - move her head forward to see how I put her to breast - until I cannot see. Just imagine this scenerio, my mom wears spectacles and her eyes is a little big and she opened her eyes even bigger to see; mouth a little opened in response to the eyes. She wants to see how Aricia drinks and kept asking me "is she drinking? Oh she's drinking?" - even before I can reply her.

IGNORANCE NO. 4
Everytime I want to feed Aricia, and she's the one passing Aricia to me (be it in hospital or home) she'd face my poor girl's face infront of my breasts- even before I can unbuttoned the flap - and say "nah!" And still preparing myself while adjusting myself, she'll try to help me put her to breasts, thinking asking her to drink is simple.

WHY IGNORANCE??
I ever asked mom if I've latched her properly in the hospital when the staff nurse was not around, I wanted to try without their help. And she said she don't know." Huh? You have 3 children what! You mean you never breastfeed us meh?" "Ai yoh, that time give birth C-class already kena scolding for screaming in pain during labour. Nurses will crudely tell you, then when you and your husband make love not pain lah! Give birth make so much noise!! You think they can be bothered to teach you how to breastfeed??

Umm..........so there is my story of Me, my breasts & my Mom!!

New start for Athena

Well, its the first day in school for Athena. I didn't bring her in to school today, as she stayed over at mom's place the night before. Anyway, I guess she wouldn't have felt any difference in being advanced to another class coz she's still in the same school.
But when I went to pick her up, she saw me and first thing she told me was "Mummy, I in K1 this year leh...." Yah, as if the mother don't know, but oh well what can you expect from an innocent child?
She reminded me again and again (when we were out wasting time in TM before her music lesson starts) that she's "in K1 and then next year K2 and then Primary 1. I will go another school, I will go mummy's school." She also told me "mummy, last year I in N2 I very short. This year now hor.. I very tall becoz' I in K1, then I much tall in Primary 1 (as she spoke, she squatted pretending to be short; bent her knees to be tall and then tiptoed to be even taller - all in the middle of the walkway. ?!?!)
And if telling me that she's in K1 is not enough, she had to tell this old man who works in TM BreadTalk, she fondly calls ye-ye, "I in K1 this year." Normally, she would just run to him, call him and say goodbye. But today she stopped to tell him this. So cute!

Today is also the new start of her new music class. She has progressed from Music Wonderland to YJC. And now then do I understand why girlfriend Jasmine told me that the parents have to do alot of work, and practically teach at home. Anyway, I always revise with Athena her music lesson at least once a week at home so there will not be any changes in this current practice. But it's like.... Oh my goash! the parents better have some musical background to help the child. Peggy went quite fast in her class that no time to take down notes siah!

I thought after her lesson, she would stay overnight in Tampines. Well, she did insist on staying in Tampines, which I thought it's a good idea coz' her lesson ended at 9.15pm... but when she saw my parents bringing Aricia down and into the car, she refused to stay over. And insisted on coming home with me.

out from a compartment which I had clearly forgotten..

and realised I had bought alot of activity books for my child from dunno where when I was still flying. And these particular books I bought was the full range of these so colourful & interesting books - that I feel like doing them myself. To be fair, I had to spilt half for the 2 of them. And I had a few more colouring books. I think I must be crazy to stock up on so many activity books.

Confirmed crazy since I can even stock up clothes for my babies; (ended up more girls dresses than boys clothes - and since brother welcoming Ignatius soon, I passed those new boys clothes to them) story books that were bought in full range; baby products which mostly ended up useless - you wouldn't know it until you are a mother- and thrown away. Since I can find these 4 years later after moving in, I wonder if I've got any money or jewellery stashed somewhere in my house??

Anyway, with the amount of books and colouring pencils;crayons etc.. I have - for sure I can save $$ for the next few years (provide I don't succumbered into temptation to buy new things for my children)

Phew!

Isn't it a relief that Athena is not around the house? Earlier on, dad came by to give us some bao and some tidbits for Athena. Then hubby just teased Athena if she wanted to go over to Tampines to stay and immediately she said yes. Strange? Just the night before, she wanted to stay and then started crying for me when she saw us leaving - in the end she followed us home.

Bad parents we are, we made sure she brought everything along with her and pat her backside out of the house. It's like..... we can't wait for her to leave us alone; give us some peace; make us a little relaxed. Bad huh?

I don't deny that the house is quieter and we do miss her when she's not around. But sometimes when we get irritated by her; we just can't wait for someone to bring her away from us - before we kill her by our smacking etc...

Oh.. so its the second day of the New Year

Well, I must admit I was busy posting out all my drafted blog entries that I kindda forgot to wish my readers a HAPPY 2007!

Perhaps it was also done deliberately as I dread it when the year comes to a closing end and starts with a new year it also means : adding another digit to my present age. Shit! Yes, when I was younger I would look forward to countdown and remember one year Alyse, Norita & myself were in Manchester and we went pubbing when the older crew were sleeping in their rooms. We were thinking "siao! sleep for what. Let's party." We had so much fun, hugging the strangers there and singing Auld Lang Syne. Now I know why they chose to sleep. Another year, I was flying from Singapore to London and I was worried shit if the plane might go down since all companies couldn't adjust their computers from 1999 to 20'00'. And no need to think about the new year, I just wanted to reach London safe.

Anyway, the children were asleep. We were switching channels in the bedroom, hubby was also reading his book in between commericals, I was on the laptop (trying to write my post-dated entries). Then the countdown began... 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 "HaPpY NeW yEaR!!" We looked at one another and said "Happy New Year" to each other in a mono tone ; kissed and continued what we were doing. Boring siah! But at the same time I was hoping that when they sang Auld Lang Syne, I am in some Loch in Scotland with the bagpipes playing the tune...... and then I think about my trip with mom in Scotland and how we were looking out for Nessie. Now, I'm stuck in Singapore - Punggol to be exact with 2 young kids!

And what resolutions are you talking about? Why should someone who hardly keeps her resolution make the same one every year - still seeing that flabs around her waist (or what waist!) Forget about the resolution; just look forward to the year with extra lines on my face. Perhaps I should ask for a genie who can grant me an extreme makeover - lipo; botox;rhinoplasty without pain.

Back to room

I must admit that both or rather Athena is doing well now. She hasn't been "complaining " much. Sometimes she'll want me to sleep next to her but even if she wakes up alone - she wouldn't cry.

However the disadvantages in both of them sleeping in another room are :
1) have to remember to set the monitor on, unless for some nights when we also didn't turn on the aircon to sleep
2) cover the blankets over them. I realised my 2 gals like to kick off blanket (like me) and they can really turn in bed. Aricia does that too but not as bad as her sister.

Was wondering if we should change the layout of the room next time when Aricia's older. Or maybe we moved house already?

Why tell me such thing?

What mom just (less than 20minutes ago) said pissed me off!

She stayed over since Athena was asking her to, and they both slept on Athena's bed. I heard her coughing through the baby monitor and walked over to check on her.
Then mom said "how come she keeps coughing.... she never cough so much when she stayed over at my place?"
What does she mean when she said those words?
1) That my house's possessed?- so she's coughing more at my place?

Then mom said "you got any medicine to give her or not?" "I have been giving it to her everyday what?!" "And you don't expect it to cure so fast?"
"Give her some more now.."
"I give her now she'll still cough what! You already know that a person coughs more when he/she is lying flat.."

And how can she blame me??
►She knows how many times I've been warning her and my family about not caving in to her requests in buying sweets for her, even if she does sit down on the floor in protest.
►She knows how displeased I am when they do give it to her
►She knows how frustrated I am whenever I past this remark "you jolly well know that the chinese sinseh advised us that in order to stop her bronchitis from getting worst; is to stop giving her anything sweet for the next 2 years. Everytime, you all start giving her sweets.. she starts coughing. And when she starts coughing, who takes care of her? It's ME! Don't throw her back at me!!

And it's not like I've got the patience in the whole wide world to take care of her, since now I've to take care of the little one - exhausting me out.
